Am I the only one that thinks S550s need the most help in the back of the car? The rear suspension?
Nope. It's like Ford blew their load on the front half of the car and forgot about the rear. I've spent way too much time trying to fix the shortcomings.

As near as I can tell, from Tascaparts.com parts;

Mach 1 and PP1 use the same rear MR shocks. GT350Rs rears are different.

Still trying to figure out the front struts.

The dampers themselves are not 'smart' devices. They just have 2 wires going to them which energizes a magnet. The difference is in the actual piston flow restriction. The good thing about these is that they've had to survive the entire Ford durability cycle, so you know they'll last quite a while.

I think the stock Ford Vehicle Dynamics Module (VDM) with the high damping struts is a pretty good combination. On average, you're probably doubling the damping forces which I think the car loves. It gives it much more of BMW M-car ride *without* going to the aftermarket controller.

Is Steeda changing their locked DSC map for these?

Yes, I'm aware, they just respond to electrical input as a dumb device. The VDM does all the thinking with the level sensors being what it references.

Which is why I'm super excited to pair this with the FRPP magneride kit(springs, sways, and VDM flash) I already have.

See how this all jives together on the road.

that could easily be the case. GT350R spring rates are much higher than Mach1 (which is similar to GT/PP1) so it's entirely possible they used the high-damp config on the R and went with the standard 350/PP1 units on the Mach one.

Any easy give away (although not set in stone) is that the higher spec units carry Ford Performance branding and the lower spec units don’t.

I’ve noticed this on 500 threads when I’ve been browsing, and it’s reflected on that Steeda advert.

So, do any of the M1 and M1 HP guys have any under arch pictures they want to share ?

This is the same combo I'm running: HD front and std. rear.

I just had my buddy take a pic of his rear MR shock on his M1. I can see the ohms rating is different than the ohms rating on my Bullitt rear MR shock.

Mine looked like any normal OEM strut, just with a different part number. Even that is tough to nail down. FP has no idea, dealers have no idea and most internet suppliers don't bother to access such an obscure part. I bought mine for $320 apiece, which I though was reasonable. Steeda didn't get too crazy with their prices.

@TeeLew I haven’t researched it yet, I now have a Mach 1 HP and I’m curious what shocks and struts they went with. I know the programming on the VDM is PP2/GT350 programming.

Is MagneRide a necessity? Probably not for most drivers. But I checked the box for the upgraded Handling Package on my HPP because the combo of Torsen diff, MagneRide, Bremos, and gorgeous PP2-style wheels seemed like a steal at the asking price. Ok, the Corsas were useless and got ditched immediately. I’ve been extremely pleased with the ride quality and adaptability of the MagneRides. Definitely smooths out the ride when I want comfort - I’m pushing 50, and my back won’t tolerate “bone crunching stiff ride” anymore - but really locks it down when I hit a nice set of twisties in Sport+.

I have had it in several other cars. It's hard to say how much difference it makes unless you compare 2 identical cars, one with and one without. The most significant observations I have is that it is very expensive to replace and really crappy urban streets will wreck it. It starts to leak much sooner than any other suspension I have had. Maybe it has improved in recent years, but I'm not willing to take the chance.

$350 isn't "very expensive to replace" on a $50K+ car.

They might have just decided to raise damping globally by changing the strut without changing the VDM. My situation is unusual because I've also got a big front spring, but for normal driving, this is a good combo. I don't think the standard front struts would be nearly as well controlled.
