While I can respect your position, please keep in mind that the Mustang has a lot of tech features, like it or not. As such, discussion of those tech features, their functionality and compatibility with other tech devices is par for the course. That being said, I agree that this particular thread should not be allowed to get too in depth into such discussions. I've made my point. I don't intend to pursue it any further.

And discussion of the perceived value of the tech features in general is obviously very subjective and probably deserving of its own thread, assuming that debate hasn't already been beaten to death somewhere else on this forum. :)
I think what you'll see is Ford move to whatever system is easy for them to use/program for and what they perceive as the longer lasting install base. That said, if it's similar to the general market out there, one brand definitely gets 1st priority app development from most top tier vendors.

I am disappointed that a thread dedicated to options desired at a forum dedicated to a particular automobile has devolved to a discussion on "Apple", "android", "IOS" and the like.

I don't care about any of that stuff - at all.

I care about automobiles a lot and Mustangs in particular (among others). I am especially interested in the new Mustang because of the change to IRS (something mechanical) and the four cylinder turbo (again mechanical) - in addition to the other improvements in this new generation of Mustang. I'd like to ignore completely any computer related stuff when driving a fun car with a manual transmission; I don't want to monkey with anything that relates to computers on an office desk or in a "smart" phone. Or, at least if I have to do so when operating the car that stuff needs to be as invisible, as non-intrusive as possible.

Now I do admit to being a neanderthal by not wanting to use a NAV system in a new Mustang; I'd rather use my maps for driving in the mountain west. But gee, there is absolutely no joy at all in computer systems for me and especially in discussing that stuff when contemplating a new generation Mustang - an exciting, interesting mechanical device.

I agree that cars have somewhat gone overboard in tech features. You can see the same thing in the military where the F22/F35s have been plagued by all sorts of issues while the older non-tech jets still work like a charm.

I'm still pissed the A-10 has been retired. That is the embodiment of why you keep things simple and engineered well.

A-10 isn't retired yet  And also, all those "old" jets have had numerous modifications done to them to improve them.

Correct but they are doing their best to try to get it retired.

There is nothing more terrifying then hearing that chain gun. :eyebulge:

It's a Gatling gun. A chain gun ha a mechanical feed system and runs through a single barrel. The GAU-8 Avenger in the A-10 has 7-30mm barrels rotating at up to and over 3,000rpm. A good example of a chain gun is the 25mm Bushmaster that you find on an APC.

Regarding the Apple car play, I believe that is something developed by Apple, that they hope auto mfrs will use in order to give apple users more seamless integration with the vehicle. I do not think it needs to be device agnostic. I also believe that Google is working on a similar interface for Android devices. If MS was smart they'd get their Sync software to work EXTREMEMLY well with windows phone.

Then basically all devices would be covered, the software would be developed by someone with a vested interest in making the best interface possible, and the auto mfrs wouldn't need to do much more than provide enough storage space for the three software platforms. Of course they'd also have their own default interface.

I wouldn't be surprised to see something like that in the near future. I think Apple was just the first to make some deals with the auto companies, which is why you hear about it more.

As far as options go, I'd be getting the GT Premium with PP. I'd also want the improved interior package with the redline trim. Finally, I'd very likely get the Recaros for their improved bolstering, even though I'd be disappointed in giving up the cooled seats.

As Samsung and others are finding out, the populace is migrating to Apple's closed system. Just offers a better user experience without tons of issues for the end user. I don't see car companies going the Android route because of all the OS issues and just general compatibility problems with how many devices there are out there in Android land. (and please don't turn this thread into an Apple vs Android thread please :))
I wrote out a massive paragraph disregarding your disclaimer but figured it is not worth arguing with your "kind," I've done it plenty in the past.

the only two options that are a must-have for me are the Recaros and the Performance Pack. The Recaros may not even be a must-have now, as I keep reading about people raving about the standard seats in the cars that they sit in.

My Volvo has spoiled me on this topic, the seats have to be as good or better or else I'm getting the Recaros.

Nav. I'm sick and tired of having my smartphone navigation turn off every time I get a call or text when I'm using it. We have to use Bluetooth in my state (IL) so I want my navigation to navigate and my phone for calls.

Smartphones definitely have their own set of issues when it comes to nav. No way the Ford Nav is going to be in the same planetary system as Waze, however. I cant imagine paying that much money for Fords Nav and be utterly disappointed every time I booted it up. I personally will deal with the shortcomings of my smartphone before I would pay for the reduced functionality of Ford Nav.

There is probably an app or tweek for that issue. If you have an iphone you shouldn't have that issue. You can actually be on the phone and switch back to the navigation app and the phone call still be active (talking and all that good stuff). The navigation app will also quietly still give spoken direction while on the phone so you can still heard the directions but won't talk over the person on the line. I'll have nav on mine but i'll probably never use it due to the phone being more seamless.
