On the 496ās back in the 90ās we knew we would tear them down in the winter so the short rod really didnāt matter. I never really thought the ls7 would live back in the dayā¦.yet here we are with thousands of boosted miles on themā¦.hell katech does a time attack 750 horse NA motor they spin to...
This is very true! 496 bbc by all accounts has a horrible rod ratio (1.37) but we spin them to 6800k and 7xx hp in big compression (14.1 to 15.1) race trim back in the day š¤·š¼āāļø
Thatās still a good rod ratio. In modern times the idea of 1.8 has been pushed aside due to material science and itās been proven in most cases a 1.6ish ratio makes better torque. This combo and an LS7 are in the 1.5x range which is really on the edge of my comfort zone.
At 74* the 5.2 hits 8034 at the same rpm (8000) the 5.4 hits 8467ā¦.st 7800 rpm 8200. Itās not terribleā¦.
boosted ls7 at 7600 is 8375 with same rod ratio essentially
In my heart with good hd rods and 3.84 stroke you could run this combo with a max of 25 to 28 lbs of boost up to 7800 rpm and it live a long time. You would need l19 or 625 main bolts and rod cap bolts and Iād do steel main capsā¦..but I think for a street strip build it would rip!!!
So the 5.2 and 5.0 use the same 3.65 stroke. The only difference is the bore. The 5.2 has a 3.7 bore and the 5.0 has a 3.6x bore. 3.7 is a max bore on these blocks due to the bore spacing. Thatās why the only way to gains and cubes is to increase the stroke. That motor uses a 3.9 stroke with a...
