Adding a teaspoon of carbon is really nothing in 10 quarts (2.5 gallons). I plan on running it for a 1000 miles, dump and then put Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30.
I will see what happens.
Were you actually told to do this by Ford Motor Company?

If not, I hope they don't see this post. LOL

Air bubbling is not such a weird theory by the way.

But I do not see how carbon would be a fix for it. I initially thought it affects oil flow and fights air bubbling, or, blocks air from coming into a system.

But it does not do that. Only one scientific work mentioned carbon impact on oil cavitation, but the graph they had was demonstrating that improvement was very minor.

Now imagine air bubbling theory is correct and connect engine tick start with oil change process.

It must be either oil filter or oil housing that let air in. Nothing else is touched.

Thoughts?

That can't happen, since the housing and filter are under pressure. If there was a leak, oil would only come out.

Maybe guys with the tick have an oil level thats way too low or way too high, which could possibly cause oil aeration - ?

Cylinder of a 2018 that was torn down in shop. Mechanic wasnt there. Looks like some piston slap type scoring imo. Not sure if it would really be a long term problem but I think my car probably has this same issue.

The BBQ Tick I noticed before the Tribotex treatment was not nearly as pronounced as a lot of others on the forum. I have a lift at my house and change my oil a lot due to being somewhat anal and bored. I’ve made sure my oil levels are exact when I change my oil and I even prefill the filter as much as I can. I crank the car with the peddle to the floor so it won’t fire to build oil pressure and then let it start. The oil level is pretty exact every time, it doesn’t even burn any (knock on wood). I do all the little things everyone says you should do. Nothing seemed to prevent BBQ Tick. I think that a majority of the cars have the BBQ tick and the owner doesn’t even know it. I think BBQ Tick is normal but that’s just my opinion. Also, I feel like a lot of people may have other issues and sounds that they think is BBQ Tick but it’s something different.

I purchased an oil filter cutter recently and will cut my filter open when I change my oil in the next few days. I changed my 2012 Focus’s oil a few days ago and cut the filter open and it was clean but had some really minuscule pieces of metal in it but the car has 110k miles and has always ran like a champ so I’m not worried about it (except the auto transmission, been rebuilt 7 times under warranty, it’s a HUGE pos).

Don't let the dealer treat you like a fool. Tell them you know there is a ford only technician forum and the issue is discussed there, the service manager can easily see all the cases open for this issue on their computer from all dealers, if they still treat you like a fool knowing that you now know this, call ford directly and open a case, don't let em treat you like your some tool walking in they can trick.

One Boss 302 owner reported success with Driven's Street formula oil: http://www.drivenracingoil.com/dro/fr20-synthetic-5w-312html/

First gen S550's 2nd Gen 5.0 is much closer to the Boss 302's Road Runner variant than the 1st gen 5.0. So it's a good base line. It sounds to me like it's all additive package related and most modern oils don't really dampen mechanical clatter. I'm starting to wonder if the side to side clearances are enough even when in spec to cause the "BBQ Tick" and that's just how that design is. There is no side bearing and maybe that's a common thing with the clearances Ford uses. This is not just a Coyote 5.0 Mustang edition phenomenon. It's a F350 6.2 Gas, F350 6.7 Power Stroke, F-150 5.0 and Mustang 5.0 phenomenon.

From what we've seen so far, Ceramic Powders are the best solution from a street car perspective as I believe they are catalyst safe, assuming you care enough to quiet it down. Otherwise, drive on
It’s actually rather embarrassing to drive around in a “new” car with a noise that shouldn’t be there that can be heard by others around you. Agreed?
