Sounds like a trade in is in order if your that picky. Either that or try ceratec. Remember it may not have to be out of spec to get the bbq tick. It could happen to some degree even with a clearance of 0.45 mm theoretically even though the max is 0.50 mm.

Ive seen so many issues with from Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Chevy, Dodge and even Toyoda whose quality has consistently out done most mainline auto makers....seems like luck of the draw no matter who you buy a car from but I could certainly see how getting one with an issue and then getting the runaround by a dealership sod put one off. Sadly it happens with every brand. Some are better than others however.

Thankfully I don't have any ticking issues with my 2015 it only has 1,900 miles on the clock but I have changed the oil 3 times with Ford 5W30 and filter. Maybe the 16 psi from the twins is the key lol, .015 -.020 rod side clearance is the norm for most V8 engines for the coyote to tick it must be a lot more than that.

If you want to read about rod side clearance, read this post and those after it in this thread:
BBQ tick - another attempt to understand

Post #61 in that link is talking about the car seen in this video:

I know it's a different engine but I had a built 3 valve and it had .020 rod side clearance with Manley H beam rods, it never made any ticking sounds. I wonder if the factory connecting rod is amplifying this sound curious to know if an aftermarket rod with the same clearance would make any noise.

The factory manual "standard" spec target is around 0.013" with a max allowed of 0.020". Must be a reason why Ford specified the S550 Coyote to have that rod side clearance.

I actually went up to the dealership unannounced to check on things since this is taking way too long. They lied to me when they said I was getting a long block. All I got was a short block like everybody else. The first thing I saw was my old block with no heads. At least they have the new short block all put together.

I talked to the tech and he said cylinder 2's rod bearings were out of spec. I asked about side clearance and he either said it was good or he didn't check because clearly the bearing was out of spec. I should have the car back tomorrow or Thursday. Sucks that it's going to be cold by the time I finish breaking in the new short block.

Any details on the out of spec rod bearing clearance measurements? I bet he didn't even check the side clearance. If the oil pan is off the new short block, I'd have him check the rod side clearance if it was my motor. I don't know why these techs can't make simple measurements on the bottom end.

I asked him about bearing clearance and he said he didn't take any measurements. Oil pan was still on but even then, I don't know if they would oblige if I asked.

Finally, everything is done. I'm picking the car up today. It took a day longer because the tech had to order a throw out bearing. Don't know why, but whatever. Start to finish on this thing was something like 38 days, so not too bad I think considering some of the horror stories I've read on here.

Got it back today and the check engine light was on. It's throwing P0300, P0302, and P0308 - misfires in cylinders 2 and 8. Along with that, my exhaust tips are all jacked up and sagging and the AC isn't working as well as it used to. I expected to get it back a little messed up, but Jesus, not this much.

Christ, what's wrong with some of these dealerships? Send cars out the door with check engine light on - wow.

I'm leaning towards giving them the benefit of the doubt. I just reviewed all the dash cam footage and the tech treated the car pretty well and did go on a good test drive after the swap. They also ran the motor for around 30 minutes before that so you would've thought he'd have noticed it if it popped up.

Took it in today and turns out the tech forgot to do the crank relearn. Glad it was just that simple. Motors runs pretty good and feels like it has more power. I noticed that I needed way less throttle cruising in 6th on the highway. I wouldn't be surprised if the tick was setting off the knock sensors.

What about your exhaust and your AC? Did they resolve that?

AC would've been hard to prove so I didn't mention it. I just let the exhaust go. Didn't want to potentially burn a bridge from something relatively minor.
