I just love driving a manual, and currently own two. I live in the rolling hills of Metro Atlanta suburbia, about an hour from the mountains. The vast majority of my driving with this car is OTR interstate. Most of my errand/grocery getting is in the Jeep, which is also a stick. If I commuted, or did mostly city driving, then my DD would be an EV.

I don't understand the conflict, and honestly don't care. Be confident in works best for you, and quit trying to justify it.

How many people bought a manual because they don’t know how to drive an automatic?
Not sure how seriously you intended that, but I might actually fit that criterion of yours . . .

I haven't exclusively driven cars with an automatic for nearly 50 years. I haven't commonly driven them in over 15. I haven't driven them at all in the last 8 or 10.

With that in mind, it is not automatic (intentional) for me to step on the brake pedal to move the shift lever out of where I had to leave it last, in order to actually go somewhere. Nor to step on the brake when I'm stopped on level ground to avoid creeping ahead. Doesn't even feel right to just sit back and let the automatic shift part of it do the shifting for me.

None of that comes naturally any more, and would take a considerable amount of conscious thought. Way, way more than I put into shifting a MT.

I have “reformulated“ my question to avoid any pointless arguments.
How many people bough a manual because they don’t know how to drive an automatic?
The question should be,

How many people bought a manual because they don't know how to drive an automatic while staying awake with the boredom.

So, here at least, there's no stigma around an auto being the "easy choice". If anything, the auto was seen as being the luxury choice.
Precisely. And it was seen much the same way here 50 or 60 years ago.

To those more interested in American hotrods or imported sports roadsters, luxury represented a dilution of the driving experience and didn't feel right. It's what the older people of the time (parents in my case, grandparents and possibly great-grandparents for many others) chose when they decided that they'd outgrown having to be that involved with the details of keeping the engine running at rpms where it was happy.

Here in the UK there are two types of driving licence. If you take your test in an automatic car, you are only licensed to drive an auto (and can be fined/banned if you're caught). If you pass your test in a manual car, you then have the choice of driving either a manual or an automatic. So, mos 17 year old girls here, if they choose to learn to drive, will be proficient with a manual 'box, so we don't get too much "willy-waving" about the subject here :giggle:
Used to be the same way where I grew up when I was getting my license. Nobody wanted the stigma associated with having a limited license.

Read post #104. Boredom doesn't have to be part of it.

So this thread is now 7 pages and we haven’t had a single automatic owner facing up to the fact that he doesn’t know how to drive a manual...,the closest we got was someone blaming his wife.... nice

there is no doubt that for a DD, especially in a city, an automatic mustang make sense but, and that was What I I seriously don’t get, if you know how to drive a manual and your Mustang is your second or third car why will you deprive yourself of the pleasure that a manual bring?
Yes, I get it, the 10 speed is faster but how much times do that come into play in real life?
The answer is maybe simply that some of us appreciate different things
The Mustang for me (same as my Viper) is a sport car and I like them basics and raw, a 3rd pedal,
Cloth seat, no navigation, the least amount of electronics, etc
What exactly is it you want out of knowing who bought an automatic because they didn't know how to drive a manual? Seems more of a troll thread than anything else. Is this thread your way of justifying why you bought a manual lol? I have had some pretty good laughs out of this thread so far. This is about the 3rd or 4th thread talking about the exact same thing... manual vs auto... what did you expect to come out of this thread except for funny memes and people joking around?

P.S.. I like your Viper :like:

I can't believe I read all 7 pages to get here.

Hey all you Willy wavers, I'm bi-transmissional, and I don't care if it's a manual or an automatic as long as it performs the way I want. I'm stuck with a manual right now because the performance I wanted could only be found in a manual, but I was with an automatic before this. And let me tell you, could that automatic perform, but it just didn't have the moves that my big stick manual has. Could I go back to an automatic; well I guess so. If I keep having that nightmarish dream that I had last night of driving past a huge line of stop and go traffic trying to get on the expressway, then I might be scared into another relationship with an automatic. I would hate to see my big stick go though. I would just have to remember how to make an automatic perform to my liking.

Hey! You know what you guys need. You need a big bar so that we can all get into a big hot and sweaty fight and beat each other with our willies:crackup:

So I noticed. I'm always willing to join in, too.

Here you go: The car models with the most manual transmission sales are Camaro and Corvette. The A10 (that they share with Ford) was only available on the ZL1 and their other automatics are not widely appreciated by enthusiasts. The wider availability and acceptance of the A10 in the Mustang has reduced manual sales.

Maybe I should start another thread on which caliper colors brake better...
And the answer is:
1/ Red. by far. Increase braking 50%
2/ Yellow. 25% increase
3/ Blue. 15% increase
4/ Silver. 5% increase
5/ Black. 0% increase
6/ Fake caliper covers. Need testing

Driving the ZL1 with the A10 when I was the internet director at a Chevy store for a short while was what sold me on the transmission. I couldn't believe how much better it was than any other automatic or automated manual transmission I had ever experienced. It's all in the shift logic. The 8 speed in the Corvette on the other hand sucked

you're forgetting about the added stopping power of a Brembo decal on non-Brembo calipers

I drove my manual to work today in rush hour traffic. Good news is, there wasn't any rush hour traffic. My head hurts from catching up on this thread, but at least Wal-Mart had Tylenol and toilet paper last night. Only five more hours until I get to drive the Mustang again. It's full of premium gas (not intended to start another one of those threads), so I can take the long way home tonight. Yes, things are definitely looking up!
