Just got my unobtanium Fl 2087 filter today. Bought it on EBay for $96 shipped. Had to have it so it is what it is.

For what it's worth, I actually took my first oil change filter at 600 miles, flushed the filter out and here is the residue. I flushed the next two filters (1200 & 5000 miles) and had no visible residue. For sure!
I actually asked for the old oil filter back so I could examine the metal fragments in it and thought about that. But, the tech wrote that I supplied the oil, filter and specified K&N HP-7037. I'm sure the first thing they would look up are the service records.
Hahahaha I never said this was the end of the world. The manual doesn't say anything about not using dealer supplied oil, but does specifically state that for the oil filter for a reason.
At the end of the day this is not going to stop me from driving the car when the winter is over. Odds are nothing is going to happen. That said, this is still aggravating.
Maybe a bug or two, it's been in the shop for over a year.....time to dispose of the 3 old filters.....Looks like some metal boogers in there. But that means the filter worked.
A good point. I have lots of used 2087s laying around. If anyone needs one, let me know.I've worked with dozens of attorneys over the years (and against just as many) and a wise one once told me, having a solid legal position isn't as good as not having a problem at all.
Could you win if you pressed the issue over a costly warranty claim? Maybe. Hell, even if it were PROBABLY. Do you really want to fight a dealership (or Ford) if they attempt to deny a warranty claim? Even if you end up winning, you have to concede that it's better to avoid the issue (if possible).
I've also purchased hundreds of millions in warranties over the years and to say I'm a cynic would be an understatement. Warranties are often at best, discretionary, because there's a zillion ways the issuer can crab out of them and like above, even if you fight and win, the battle is just as bad or worse than the remedy.
I'm no longer in the warranty camp, but if I were, I'd try to follow as closely what Ford recommends. Hell, I'd even go as far as to run motorcraft and if I DID have to run an aftermarket filter, I'd keep a used 2087 around just to swap out and ensure it wasn't even a topic of discussion.
Yeah if you find a dealership on Fordparts.com and it says "In stock for pickup" then you should be good to go. If it says "Most parts available next business day" then you will get a cancellation email a few hours later.Fordparts.com had it in stock, just got the email it’s ready for pickup at the dealer.

Great tip! I checked all of the nearby dealerships using fordparts.com and one of them said "in-stock for pick-up." Went there and they had one on the shelf - scored for 38 bucks!Yeah if you find a dealership on Fordparts.com and it says "In stock for pickup" then you should be good to go. I ordered one and they havent cancelled yet - but I did find another local dealer that showed it in stock - it let me place 2 in my cart. I didn't order yet but if I do, I'll send one to anyone who is in dire need.Yeah if you find a dealership on Fordparts.com and it says "In stock for pickup" then you should be good to go. If I were you I would order from that second dealer that said in stock, just to be safe. A few hours is a general guideline. Once it took almost 24 hours for them to cancel on me.I ordered one and they havent cancelled yet - but I did find another local dealer that showed it in stock - it let me place 2 in my cart.
