Hello, I ordered an FL-2087 filter off Amazon but received a FL-2087-A.

I've read many old threads that they have retired the FL-2087 which is made of metal, in favor of the FL-2087-A which is made of plastic. Some people reported problems, but maybe it's a small sample size.

Is this true, and what are peoples experience with the FL-2087-A? Should I try extra hard to hunt down a FL-2087 even though they don't make them anymore?

You’re in a Shelby forum, and it’s been discussed in here ad nauseam.
God forbid we try to help answer OP’s concern.
For the record, I’m not on the Shelby forums. I found it trying to help out a fellow enthusiast.

The switch over happened within the last couple of months. Last I checked Rockauto still had some FL-2087 in stock but for >$40 each.

This is wild. Pandemic situation all over again where you couldn’t get them, people trying substitute filter with plastic supports.

Just ordered a couple extra from Rock Auto. Have to believe this will get sorted in the coming months as I just can’t see Ford dealing with blown GT500 engines due to ineptitude in the parts procurement department.

From everything that I have read online and from contacting Ford dealerships the 2087-A is superseding the 2087, which is now discontinued and won't be produced any longer.

Im sure that’s true. What I’m saying by sorted is that we’ll all know moving forward if GT500 failures either happen or don’t with the A filters, or GT350s. If so due to collapsing, they’ll have to come up with an equivalent to the original. Or we’re all paranoid and the A is just fine. Imagine GT350 owners being paranoid 🤣

To my knowledge, have not seen a problem on GT500’s due to the oil filter. They all work just fine.
I personally use the K&N version just because it makes me feel good.

To be fair the 2087-A has a plastic cage with more frequent supports on the inside vs the old 2062 which failed at least a couple of times that I know of in the GT500. You can look at pictures online for comparison. The lack of rubber end caps is slightly odd though.

A vivid imagination?
LOL…you jest. However comma…

On a serious note, it was a great throwback joke to a time of epic memes about plywood and eggs. On a more lighthearted note, you and I both know where this subject has gone over the years. The way a portion of this community is over this filter, would you really be surprised if someone paid $150 for that oil filter? Would yoouuu? Reeeaaalllllyyy?

Someone should offer a conversion kit to switch those pesky FL2087's to the ever-reliable FL2069ST spin-on filter that came on the 2016's. Easy to get, easy to install, never cause problems when torqued correctly - they're everything you could hope for in a GT350 oil filter.
