For those you in Texas, they moved OUSCI from Vegas (due to SEMA cancellation) to COTA 11/1-3. I’ll be making the 32+ hour haul to compete on 11/2-3, but if you aren’t in the event, they are doing an all-comers autox on 11/1 (as well as a car/vendor show, and possibly track/karting, details are still being worked out). More info will be posted here: https://hiperformanceexpo.com/

Hope to see some M6G’ers there!
Tell me more about the all-comers autox. Couldn't find any details there about that part of the event.

Sounds like fun time tho, will try to check it out.

I think I have a points event that day (sunday), but may be able to make it to that all-comer's event.

The organizers are discussing the details behind the scenes, but nothing that can be publicly confirmed yet. It looks like they did add some stuff to the schedule though: https://hiperformanceexpo.com/event-schedule/

OK, lots of ground to cover.
  • @Brian@BMVK You didn't hear tire squeal or engine noise because this camera was previously used on the outside of a car and had the mic taped over and mic gain turn to minimum. There definitely was some.
  • As far as corner speeds being low, you're 100% right. There were 2 reasons. One is that the pavement was quite rough and had a lot of voids. It was cheese grater stuff, and had relatively poor grip. On top of that, I was habitually trying to carry way too much speed on entry (the vid I showed was the best and I was still doing it), upsetting the car with a hacky turn-in and then just sliding until it would recover and I could get on with my business. At that point, though, I would be off-line and in the dirty stuff. I've got reasonable apex and throttle discipline, but I've got to chill on entry or I'll never get my corner speeds up or throttle down.
  • Engine Revs: Remember that I'm driving a different engine package than most everyone else. Mine has a really good bottom end and runs out of steam well before the redline. It's not like the Coyote...it's kind of the opposite. Peak torque for me is below 3k revs and it's making the same power at 4000 RPM as it is at 6500. I can run my engine to the limiter, like I did on Sunday or, if there's a convenient spot on the course, I can shift and it's much easier to drive fast corners in the taller gear. I'm not going to play with engine stuff until I'm happier with the chassis and driver, but tuning might change driving somewhat.
  • My car has the Magnaride dampers, so it's one of those deals where I don't have much choice but to go to 'Track' mode because it controls my damping. A DSC Controller is in the works, but it can't happen just yet. I will say, that this also might be an Eco/Coyote difference. I have noticeable turbo lag. It's not a huge issue, but there's a moment between when the car responds to my foot and when the turbo responds. It softens the power application even if my throttle application is ham fisted. It also doesn't like a lot on/off. I'm better off keeping the pot on boil.
  • Cal Club in Southern California had 15 CAM-C cars and several T's and S's as well last weekend. It's pretty damn cool to see, even if the Chevy guys did run the table.
  • Overall, I had a great time. I was hoping to be a little further up the time sheet, but I didn't expect to come in and have big success right away. It'll take a 1/2 dozen or so weekends for me to find my sea legs and maybe then I can be more competitive. Either way, I don't have to make a living with this car. It's recreation, and I'm going to appreciate it as such.

I need to change rear spring, but in a different thread NightmareMoon clued me into the fact normal aftermarket rear springs wouldn't work on my Magnaride car I decided to just bite the bullet and get the Maier rear spring system. In the end it will probably be cheaper.

There are some that are available (Ford Performance, Steeda, BMR). Some (fast) people run DSC Sport coilovers or delete Magneride and run MCS coilovers.

What is Maier spring system ? Google shows leaf springs...

I guess I didn't realize how common they were to use. Mike seems like a really cool guy and he makes a nice product.

I've generally tended towards using longer springs in the past, so 6-inchers in the place of 12" springs bugs me a little, but there isn't a lot of other options that fit. I'll try to run 2 1/2" ID springs to get that extra couple mm of travel, but he says coil bind hasn't been an issue because the motion ratio is so slow. So, while I'd prefer to be on an 8" spring, it seems like a shorter one will still work just fine.

I use 6" 1200# springs with helpers to take up slack at full droop. 7" might be just right.

That's good to know. I've got access to plenty of loaner springs, but they're all 6". Hyperco makes 2.25x7 up to 1500# and 2.5x7 up to 1300. Either way, they're worth checking out.

Do you run some sort of spring divider cup between your main & tender springs?

Mike said that as he increases rear spring he improves powerdown traction. Do you find the same? If so, that's one of those things that's telling us "look here."

I run the 6", 1300# spring without a helper. No slack. The way the perch sits, there doesn't seem to be a way that the spring will displace--uness you have a major shock and rear bar end link failure...but at that point, there are other things to worrry about. LOL>

To an extent, yes. Too much and it'll just load the tire too quickly.

I do run a coupler spacer between the main and helper. Eibach SPACER250, and the Hyperco CS100 helper.
