Since I was passing my dealer yesterday I thought I'd grab 1L of oil. Parts dept were helpful but believed that I needed 5W20. I showed them an extract from the Mach 1 supplement which indicated 5w30 was probably what I ought to have. They had some, but a different Ford spec code. I gave them the WSS-M2C961-A1 code and left them to make some enquiries. Got a call today and was informed they had spoken to Ford Technical and the oil grade was changed this year and I need 0W30. Parts dept also mentioned the service dept also now use 0w30.
Hi Mike, what does your UK owners manual that you got with the car say? Mine says to use 0W-30. All the dealers I called plugged my reg number into the computer and all of them (service & parts department people) came back with 5W-20 spec WSS-M2C948-B.

Interesting, my EU manual says the same as US, SAE 5W-30 spec WSS-M2C961-A1.
Only for extremely cold climate when temperature goes below -30°C it recommends SAE 0W-30 spec WSS-M2C963-A1.

I found two here with spec WSS-M2C961-A1, chose the former.
Petro-Canada Supreme Synthetic 5W-30
Total Quartz 9000 Future FGC 5W-30

barely. RP 5w30 Dexos2/SP is barely behind and stomps Penn on Zinc and Phosphorous. There are precious few 'bad' oils out there unless you're buying no-name gas station specials.
You are right. RP it is. I looked at the back of the bottle and it exceeds Ford's
WSS-M2C961-A1 requirement, which is what is posted on the Mach 1 supplement

I use 0 w 40 full synthetic
I used this many times for track duty in the S197, Mobil 1 European car formula. My understanding is that Mobil1 0W-40 was one of the few "full synthetic" oils to use base stock of group IV PAOs in the USA. I also read some posts over at BITOG that it is pretty sheer resistant, but will sheer down to 30.

My UK owners manual specifies 0W30 WSS-M2C950-A (page 260) however the filler cap has 5W30 printed on it. Also I didn't receive the Mach 1 supplemental that is linked earlier in this thread.

It's remarkable. The UK manuals say 0W-30, the oil cap says 5W-30, and if you go to most UK Ford dealers & they plug your reg into the computer, it tells them to put in 5W-20. Like it's almost embarrassing how bad that sounds.

that's what you get when none of it is recommended by sound engineering. Only the 5w30 is sound, the rest is gov't reg dodging.

It would really helpful to know precisely what the factory has put in. It seems 5W30 is most likely.

I don't know. If the car is made for the UK/Aussie markets, and all the Ford computer systems are saying 5W-20, I'm not sure if they put in 5W-30. I bought my car from an independent dealer, but one which knows Mustangs well. They told me if I'm just topping it up as a new car, to use 5W-20. However, they also told me that when I want to change my oil that they'd recommend 5W-30.

In the printed version the supplement is added into the Mustang guide, it's spliced in.

Didn't know UK is as frosty as Russia 😁

LOL, that's exactly right, I can't speak for all of the UK, but it's pretty rare that we get temperatures much below 0 C in London. Maybe the odd -5 C day. 0W-30 seems silly to me.

Exactly, UK weather is known to be pretty mild in both directions, not frosty and not too hot either. Even here in continental Europe temps below -10°C are pretty rare, if they happen then always only in cloudless night. Several times we had -20°C in past decade but how often do people drive Mustang in such conditions? Here no-one really. That said 0W won't hurt the engine either. Like with any car, there's too much mysticism revolving engine oils.

My apologies, I just saw it now in a 2021 owner's manual also. Halleluiah!!!!!!!!

I recently switched to Penzoil Ultra Platinum 5W 30 and the Ford FL 820 racing oil filter and now I have super high oil pressure. About 80 psi at 3,5000 rpm and close to 100 at 5,000 rpm. The oil is hot. Anyone else experiencing such readings?
My motor is brand new, no oil or filter change yet. Experiencing exactly what you are seeing. When cold the oil pressure is pegged at 100 PSI and when at operating temp and fully warmed up the oil pressure at anything above 2400 rpm the oil pressure runs 80 psi.
Does the Ford racing FL820 fit just fine?
