Hey all, I have a bit of a dilemma.
My plan was to do my first oil change at 3000 miles which I'm at 2700 miles now.
Next Thursday night I'm signed up for my first track event. It's beginner level, follow instructor around the road course and then autocross as well. Total 3.5 hours including classroom time. So definitely not balls out or anything.
Do I do the oil change before or after??
If I do it before, does this lessen my interval for next oil change?
reason I ask is in the owners manual it says change oil after track day.

Wow, seems a little excessive for this kind of event, no?

Depends how many miles of high rpm driving you'll be doing. If just a few, then oil change afterwards should suffice, if a lot of miles, then before and after is a good idea, it's not that expensive.

Yeah, but it is a new car and has yet to have it's first oil change. Definitely should change it before the track day.

So there's really no good answer I guess.
Some people do their first oil change at 500 miles and some wait until 5000+miles
Is there anything wrong with the factory oil for a normal period and are new engines creating metal break-in particles in the oil that I need to worry about?
If the oil looks clean on the dipstick still, maybe I just run it on factory oil and change after.
I just don't like to waste an oil change being paranoid of factory fill.

Maybe a dumb idea on my part change oil filter before and add one quart followed by full oil change and filter after.

Interesting concept. I did not know you can change the oil filter without changing the oil. I t won't drain more than what's in the oil filter area?

You need to change the oil anyway and absolutely should do it before the track day. After track day you can let it slide a bit longer.

Ok, makes sense. then I can see how hard we run and decide interval to change after. It's not like I'm doing a full day at the track running balls out. this is beginner shit.
Thanks
