Man, I'm feeling kind of left out. In nearly 6 years of ownership and 21K miles, I've never had anyone want to race me. (Not that I would).

I did have one guy in a big Boise City utility truck very obviously dive across two traffic lanes to get behind me in a turn lane. After getting around the corner, he matched my speed and honked to get me to roll down my window. He yelled out, "That thing sounds AWESOME!"

It's a Mustang isn't it? Probably half of them are driven by morons šŸ˜†

I enjoy the positive attention. I get teenage boys asking me to do burnouts constantly. Usually I laugh and tell them I’m too broke from the car payment to buy tires. If a little kid asks me about it at the gas station I will let him sit in it. Because if it’s fairly unique heritage, I get a lot of questions from old timers who remember the 350 from their years. All of that is fine. I’m a car guy, I do the same thing to other cars I see in public.

But it drives me up the wall when I’m just puttering along in the city and I get an F150 on 33s, driving like a jackass next to me. Doing that thing where they floor it and then left off over and over. They just don’t understand what the car is like foot to the floor in 2nd and 3rd.

I’m not getting my car towed and a reckless driving ticket in order to prove to some F150 that yes this car is faster than your truck. It’s common sense. A function of horsepower to weight. It’s never sleeper 1000hp race trucks. It’s young dudes with an exhaust and a programmer who have tricked themselves into believing they can now compete with bolt on GTs and 350s.

And again, it’s only the 350. None of my other sports cars attracted this many people wanting to race. I have never had a Mustang, so it may be the car in general not that it’s a 350.

I need to get a dash cam so I can document this. Make a greatest hits video of ricers and mud trucks trying to race me in a school zone.

I can confirm that there are far more trucks out there that want to race vs cars. To be transparent, my daily is a f150 albeit a lowered standard cab. Every truck and Mopar car on the face of the planet wants to make a hit. I've got more wins in this standard cab than anything I've owned. I'd say 99% of the time, it's initiated by others. Only a few time have I initiated.

Just wait until I spot you around Eagle, I'll try and race you for sure.

I think it is a Mustang thing in general, not just the 350. However, I can see how a GT350 would amplify the stupidity of others.

You did forget to mention the asshats in the Nissan Altima that has no front bumper (or one that is severely damaged), missing hubcaps, and the fart can exhaust trying to race you on the highway.

The only time I have ever been able to speak to one of these morons, I invited them to an HPDE event and put some money down on who has the fastest lap. They never showed.

I don't think the average Jimbob in a lifted Dirtymax even knows what a GT350 is.

If it's an obnoxious situation my attitude is "stay the ____ away from me!" and I will drop down the speed, turn down another street.. anything to get away from these idiots.
Had a kid once who tried to race me side by side in town... kept reving the engine... I just didn't even acknowledge him. He tore off and got about 2 blocks before the cops pulled him over. That was fun to watch.
If someone is really interested in the car and is waving, pulling next to me with their window down and wants to have a conversation that is fine.. I will oblige.
I just don't get the whole street racing.. "beat you in a straight line" sort of thing.
If they want to go fast they need to find a local drag strip facility or a HPD track event to get it out of their system. That's what I do.
I drive like a grandpa all the way back from Road America because after 4-5, 20 minute sessions I am worn out both physically and mentally. It's out of my system for the moment. Kind of like exercising your 2 year old puppy for an hour and he's laying there panting on the floor.....Zero chance of engaging me in anything on those days.
Funny thing is that the GT350 is not tired.. it's just looks at me after a track day and says "is that all you got?"
I have thought about having a sign in my 350 that I can just pull out that says:
"No, I am not going to engage in any of this. Please crack on and leave me alone"
LOL....

Love the 350, great heritage, albeit , belonging to the real Shelby’s, the GTs specifically the pp1 are just as quick and warrant the same respect. Same as all our Mustang brothers. My previous was a 10 speed ecoboost and that was a blast driving around town. Current PP1 is more then I’m willing to push all out and sound is just as intoxicating as any Mustang. Maybe what we need is a forum for the entire Mustang community. I do like the snake and stripes, just not going to pay the extra $$ for a couple of emblems.

What do you think this is? Lol. This is the GT350 section though, and while sometimes non owners can participate, it's generally frowned upon if it isn't a general topic like this one

eh, don't let the 350 owners try to tell you that you can't participate. we don't need any of that elitist shit in here. its a public forum - contribute all you want.

Just be ready to be flamed by impulsive people who can't keep their opinion to themselves

Im no stranger to sports cars. I’m blessed. I have had Mopar, Corvette, Audi S, BMW M, and now the 350. The amount of morons who aggressively attempt to get my attention is light years larger in the 350.

In particular, it’s 2 classes of drivers. Dudes in lifted big tire pickup trucks, and kids in clapped out G35s and 350Z and other assorted fart can trash. Every single time I am out it seems a F150 wants to floor it next to me. Just today I had a completely trashed G35 riding on blown out struts and a straight exhaust rev his engine over and over again when I pulled up behind him at a stop light. It’s hard to miss these cars from the front. I think it’s the cars best angle.

What do these people think I’m gonna do? Ride out 2nd and 3rd gear in city traffic with a speed limit of 35 or 45? If a cop sees that, I’m going to jail. They don’t like seeing sports cars double the speed limit in high density urban areas. I know this from experience.

It’s just baffling. Either they think these cars are slow, or they think their cars are fast. Which they aren’t. If it was Hellcats or Z06s, I would get it. That’s a legitimate battle. But a 350Z with a straight pipe isn’t even worth the gas. It’s like picking on a blind kid.

People see the Cobra plaque and just immediately assume we are as dumb as they are. No other car I have had gave me this much negative attention. I need a sticker on the back or something. ā€œNo im not gonna race you in a 35mph zone.ā€
To be honest, I find that more mustang owners drive like morons around my ZL1 than when I'm in my GT....
