I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they put out a TSB with a tune that brings the limiter down from 8000rpm to something more sane like 5000rpm when the oil isn't up to temperature. I think this is, what, at least the second if not third report on this forum of a likely OPG failure from not being warmed up.
Yeah, I had a little WTF moment when reading the supplement to the manual. Drop the limiter by 250 rpm when the oil's cold.. hmmm. I've set my "tach light" at 5000 rpm as a reminder not to go nuts when it's cold.

I am going to try my best to find out exactly what went wrong through ford, I'm also concerned because I read about another replacement which ended in cylinder misfire and multiple return trips to dealer. At this point service advisor has contacted ford and waiting on a response for replacement and rental car coverage. Thankfully I have a 2016 370z nismo, coincidentally I'm in the final stages of lemon lawing the nismo because of a host of issues ranging from hatch failing to open after 7 trips to dealer to unacceptable vibrations coming from shifter. I had to hire an attorney for the nissan. Statistically I am the definition of an outlier!!

Also, if I get a chance I'll look up the identity of the technicians who hand built the engine on the mounted plaque. Probably doesn't matter though.

Those gears in that link look cast or similar process. Does Not look billet. If it were billet and heat treated poorly it would have clean sheared brakes like a shard of glass. Here it looks like it had pours and break is concave in areas which tells me the pressure was looking for a weak spot within the part and it found it internally. JMO

I know sometimes when I am machining parts of a different material type I sometimes use the same fixture. In the same program I make two different materials so 4 parts come off the machine. They look extremely similar but not and it needs to be sure that each one is marked separately and boxed separate. I could see this as being a similar problem. Maybe the 5.0 gears are getting mixed up with 350 gears? Maybe it's at the assembly level?

I'm nervous about who will be doing install, I would prefer ford send out a specialized tech skilled in this area as opposed to Joe tech six pack.
Good luck my friend. Those of us that have had engine failures can feel your pain. Be patient. I personally introduced my self to the tech doing the work and briefed him on what I expected. Also he allowed me to document the process. Maybe once the tech meets you and you build rapport he/she will be much more careful with the removal/install. Oh! and have them order all one time use hardware before install like the clutch bolts.

I would also ask the dealers parts department to make sure they are ordering the correct bolts. According to my tech, my engine swap was delayed about a week because they ordered clutch bolts for the 5.0 GT and not the GT350. Apparently they are different.

Yes! Completely different clutch assembly.

Why is it always the OPG !??

Why can't Ford produce one that's a quality piece of equipment ? Even if you were born yesterday, you know that the thing is always a weak link in the chain. Why the hell is that.

It must not meet their corrective action criteria. I would think with just a couple they would do heavy research and implement a fix. It's better that things are changed right away, rather than letting them slide. You never know maybe a absolute shit ton will start breaking the last year of warranty and ford will have to cover it.

I don't think it will be an epidemic but what if it was and a majority could have been saved if they just took corrective action.

Correct. A GT owner just shown a pic of his failed OPG as an example. It's not a gt350. But gt350 opg's are also made from the same material as 5.0.
