I have the same setup as Dave, I'm in the NM desert and have no access to anything e other than pump gas. I've never heard a knock or had a problem. Installed the kit at 2k mi. 4 year's ago. 4.09's at 3k. Car rocks as a daily driver. Actually my wife traded me out of it and it's her daily.

Forgot one last point- I've literally never seen a gas station that didn't offer at least 91. It's pretty rare i don't see 93, and every Sunoco I've seen in the region now carries 94. I'm in the I95 corridor, but it's true even into more remote areas on the East Coast where we travel. We haven't owned a vehicle that recommended less than 91 octane in 7 years. I actually wish this tune were 93.
91 is all that's available here. When I took it to Amarillo I was only able to get 90 that was the highest they had in Hereford Texas where I had to fuel up. Still no problem.

I never logged it.
Did you ever look in the dash at the live gauges for AFR? Just curious if/how the ECU adjusted for the fuel.

On another note...how often are you at 2k rpm?
I'll most likely only do this blend when I go to the track for a little extra added safety. Probably bring a 5 gallon jug of E85 with me which should be good enough for almost 2 tanks. When I'm at the track, I'm going to be 99.999% of the time above 2k.

I only have a few E85 stations near me and they are 20+ minutes away so it wouldn't be something I can do day in and day out.

I sold the Mustang back in March 2024 to move on to the G87 M2. If I remember correctly at WOT it hung around 11.7:1.

If you live in Cali, one of the few automotive benefits we have here is our E85 is true E85.

If you ever scope your cylinders, I wanna see what the tops of your pistons look like out of curiosity, lol.

@Dave2013M3 I actually would only be in the 2-3krpm range driving around town or on the highway. You couldnt avoid it though, it would often audibly knock off idle going through the gears. If you put enough load on it I would hear it for less time, but it was consistently there. If I booted it after 3000rpm I usually didn't hear it, but it was still there on the scan tool. It would pull about 5-6 degrees which is way too much. Stock tune would add 5 degrees in the same instance. Not sure why they're 10 degrees apart with the 2 degree or whatever it is borderline change, but here we are. Maybe it's just a bugged tune download or something, who can say. I'm done spending time on it however.

That is my take on it as well. I don't need the top end boost but really want the increase in the 2000 rpm range The larger throttle body may be worse than the smaller stock one for that rpm range, lower velocity?
Why at such a low RPM?

I usually cruise at 2000 or so. I can always downshift if I need faster acceleration but it would be nice to have more torque at cruise rpm.

That to me was the best thing about this kit. 2000rpm on the highway in 6th felt way stronger. You almost never had to downshift even for pretty steep hills. Some may say that this isn't how the car is meant to be used, but they clearly haven't driven an A10 lol

  • I've been pretty disappointed in the manual trans and clutch combo, and I'm hoping that killing the rev hang will let it drive/feel closer to how i expect
I bought this kit specifically for the adjustment to rev hang, and it was 100000% worth it.

Thanks for the input. I also have a steeda clutch pedal return spring on the way.

I took the plunge and installed the Ford performance kit. Install was simple enough. Like most have said, the sound tube comes out with a gentle twist and yank, nothing broken. Here's a tip, wrap tape around your first 2 fingers with the sticky side out. Next stick the fire wall plug to your fingers, then install the plug. The tape will keep you from dropping the plug in such a tight spot. The foam block off that goes on the fender bump out is 1/2 inch short of completely sealing the air box. I added insulating foam strip to close it off. Also added heat shielding to the side of the air box that faces the engine. Another tip, lubricate the lip of the hose to the throttle body with a small amount of silicone grease. This will help it side on. Also do not bolt the air box down until you push the hose all the way on the TB and tighten. Then, with the air filter removed, reach in the air box and guide it over the air inlet up at the grille. Once you have it all placed then you can bolt the air box down. One last tip, don't cut the brake booster hose like the instructions say, just twist and pull the connector off. Then put the 90 degree elbow connector on. If you do this then there is no need to cut up the engine cover.
Now this kit made my car so much better. The 10R80 never shifted this smooth. The car no longer lugs in 8th-10th at low RPM. I guess the torque down low is real. The car idles lower and it's so quite now, even with the active exhaust set to tack mode. It has a different exhaust sound altogether. But once you put your foot in it, holy moly hang on. All I can say is that this kit turned my sports car into a muscle car. Is it a huge difference, I'd say no. Is it a positive improvement in drivability, I'd say absolutely yes. If you're looking for more, then this is not the kit. But if you're looking for hassle free, with warranty and CARB compliance then this is the kit to get if you don't plan on anything more.

I have since sold my 2020 GT, but I was very happy with the kit.

I still have all the parts on mine but it's tuned for E85 by Ortiz. It's a beast.

If I had to run gas I'd run the FP tune. It's solid.
