i was wondering if there was a benefit to doing the trans mount vs body mount shifter.
If you drive for anything more than a comfortable cruise, this is a necessity. Full Tilt Boogie makes a bracket similar to the Blowfish but doesn’t have the driveshaft loop like the BF did. It’s also lighter for that reason, so depends on if you require one. You will get some minor NVH but that’s a small price to pay for what you’re offered in return. The Barton and MGW are trans mounted as well. So it depends on your budget and the feel you’re looking for but regardless, if you have a stick car, this is the way.

It's not a terrible unit perse, but it's not until you drive a good one that you realize what a pos it really is.

It's kind of like beef... sure you can make a flank steak taste good, but then you have a nice juicy ribeye and it completely changes your concept of quality.
ah perspective. i guess having been old enough to drive T5's and T45's i can appreciate the thing for what it is.

I don`t hate the MT82 and would buy one if my mustang was a weekend car. The problem I had was that it wasn`t smooth enough for daily driving. The Tremec I had in my C7 corvette was much better, obviously.

With that said the A10 compared to a DCT or ZF German transmission also lacks in some regards. But it looks to be reliable and good enough for performance driving.

100%, the mt82 especially with an mgw is a dream to drive compared to old t5 and t45s. A lot of the comments on mt82 (bad) were prior to d4 and also not everyone knows how to drive a manual but buy one and then complain

this, i suspect, is the most significant issue. people do not know how to treat machines and feel out how they work. everyone wants a formula to apply but the reality is when you're driving a stick 90% of the problems people run into are going to be the human moving the stick.

my T45 wasn't the best but i knew its quirks. let it heat up and be careful going into 4th. this thing doesn't feel like it has a billett short shifter but maaaaaaaaan its so much better than the stock shifters in the older cars its RETARDED. those things were like throwing a shifter down a hallway. huge throws, vague feeling.

i've never had any issue with the mt82 mgw combo at any rpm. comparing two different machine parts that both operate flawlessly with big mac/kobe seems a bit prissy.

My only complaint is the the awkward 4-5 gate. I have to keep telling myself push waaaaaaay to the right every time I make that shift. I got spoiled by my BMW E85 which was the absolute smoothest shifting car I ever owned. I may go with the Steeda short throw at some point, but still researching that a bit.

It is miles better than the old T5s I had in my Fox Body Mustangs.

I don't get the hate either and I've had two now. They are perfectly fine transmissions. But I've driven T5s, SRODs and all of their crappy derivatives too for perspective. I get that there are better but it isn't nearly as drastic as it seems to play out with some folks.

I have seen people ripping shifts like the transmission and shifter were made out of stone. These are machines, and like any machine, they need to be respected and used within their capabilities. Granted a Mustang is a performance car, but slamming shifts is just not mechanically sympathetic, even though it looks cool on a Youtube video. Then when something breaks, the gearbox is considered a piece of garbage. No, the person thrashed the life out of and then wonders why something broke.

I have MT-82's in my Ranger and Mustang. They are noisy transmissions, but get the job done. The Ranger is cable operated, so the shift feel is vague. The Mustangs shifter is more positive, and I have found its happier once up to temp. I have not experienced lockouts, when driving hard I shift firmly but sympathetically.

Dead nuts, attaching the shifter to the box is a huge improvement. Unfortunately, the manufacture of the BlowFish went belly up. That was/is a really solid improvement..And was reasonably priced, did change the lube to BG, love some BG long time.

The throw, not sure what the gripping is all about there.
Full tilt boogie racing sells a similar designed bracket, less than 100 bucks right now. Was also unavailable for a time

My 2018 M82 had no issues.

My 2020 PP2 is notchy, 3rd sometimes feels like it doesn't want to engage fully. On cold mornings like today--Pulling out of my driveway in 1st gear, try to ease into 2nd gear at about 20mph, NOPE! Go to 3rd no problem, come up to the stop sign and gear down into 2nd perfectly fine. *shrug*

Used to be worse until I installed the BMR cradle lockout. It helped the shifting a good bit, that was a welcome surprise.
