I have an 18 gt with the mt82d4. Not a fan of the gearing and I miss the way my 11 and boss 302 shifted. Anyone know what it would take to swap a 15-17 built mt82 into an 18? They can be had for about $1400. I really don't want the magnum xl as it has almost the same ratios as the d4.

The transmission of course.
Full clutch setup most likely but I really don’t see why the 18 and up set up won’t work.
A tune to adjust for new ratios.
Stock harness should connect the same (haven’t compared them) and driveshaft wouldn't need to be changed either.

I love my xl magnum though.

YOU have torque though..
I reckon the new ratios would SUCK on an NA car

Very true Burkey, lol, I have a different animal. My input was in regards to the question on the 15-17 MT82 install on his car. I just felt the urge to express my love for my Tremec. I think the 15-17 ratios are for the most part really good for an NA car especially with a taller diff than the 3:73's.

It probably be easier and cheaper to replace the diff gears to 4.09s and you'll get similar results.

Ever wondered if Ford are actively seeking subsequently worse manual boxes in the hope that people just give up and buy the auto? :bandit:

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm probably doing this by the end of the year and I'll make a thread to document the process.

I am working on this as well. In the process of building up a 3.55 Torsen rear in an aluminum housing to go with it. Have a 7000 mile take out MT-82 from a 2017 GT, Exedy Hyper Single and a DSS Carbon Driveshaft to complete the swap which will save about 55 lbs in driveline mass. With respect to the tuning of the as built data is there a line for trans ratios and rear gear or only rear gear?
