Got a link to that build? Id like to read through it.There was a very public build that started from a completely stripped car with an LS that was suggested that it would be min weight as well. Didn't get there. If someone wants a CAMC car at min weight, get a 6th gen Camaro. They are about 150 lbs. lighter to start.
I certainly could be overzealous on my estimates beyond the hard numbers I know. But I do have pretty high confidence that my car can get to 3500lbs with a few fancy things left on the table. Everything all in isnt cheap of course, but there is a lot of potential.
Some additional thoughts of reductions,
- All sound deadening - I dont know what the mustang has but Id have to assume its more than the tin-can Evo which had a bit over 30lbs of it.
- AC system - My weight loss keeps the AC. Im not getting rid of it, but it is another 25-30lbs
- Carbon Rotors - Prices are coming down and theres a chinese company making 355x34 and 380x34mm rotors for under 1000/ea. Those are going to be popping up more and more, and Even over Giro rotors will save another 10lbs/corner. (dont shoot the messenger
) - Ditch all emissions stuff - I would guess at least 25lbs worth of stuff, plus makes working on things significantly easier.
- Stereo - If going all out, this is another bit in speakers. But I dont know if its possible to ditch the sync system.
- Ti Hardware - This is pretty expensive at ~$150/lb but I have several friends that have significant amount of hardware on their heavy cars.
