Its only a single event with following excuses
  • The car is at its heaviest, probably 3850. Winter spec and easy reductions just hanging out in the shop to lose an easy 200lbs
  • Tires from 2024 Nats, ~100ish runs. Almost smooth, but I'll squeeze a few more runs out of them.
  • Small Lot isn't conducive to big boy car.
  • Shock knobs left at home, all shocks just a couple clicks off full soft on both reb and comp.
  • bla bla bla
...But daaaaang! This setup was so good. Just trying to figure out the feel of all the changes, each run was a big jump in speed. Some more tweaks would have even more potential time.

This run run, in a small lot event, with solid tour level competition, ended up being TTOD.

The big changes that worked
  • Leaving in 2nd with the ESS supercharger and running in 3rd had not problem for traction. Could have used a wee bit more at slower speed digs in 3rd but downshiting to 2nd was just a burnout.
  • Billet uprights geometry changes totally transformed the front end response. Stock things just felt lazy. This brought me back to the sharpness we have in the Evo. Even with the shocks set to full soft, the front end responds as fast as we input.
  • Dropping 100lbs rear spring rate but adding rear OEM bar (also combo'd with roll axis angle change) meant corner exit throttle was so good.
    • This is 550 front, 600 rear (comparable to 1450 divorced) spring rates, 35mm BMR front bar.
  • Diff bushings - I only added the 2 rear so far.
    • Before when wheels would spin with the supercharger the car would step out to the left pretty consistently. Even going fully straight, back just wanted to go left.
    • After I can pretty much make 11's in a straight line.
Its gonna be a long season and I'll be at Crows Tour, Packwood Tour/Pro, and Solo Nats. But IMO this has the potential to make the Camaros worry.

Long post, but its hard to get across the leap in setup potential. Yeah, its kinda my job/business to do this, but the recipe is cooking.

Missed our first fun event this year :( Weather was stellar this past weekend too.

Getting a new bumper painted/installed then gonna have to replace my transmission pan. Ran over a rock dropping it off for the bumper and put a hole in it.

Ran my first ProSolo over the weekend and what an eye opening experience. Was in P3 leaving the morning heat, but slipped back to P6 in CAM by the end of the event. Shot myself in the foot by not getting a clean run on the right side course at all so the only clean run I had was my first run of the entire event where I fell asleep at the light and spun my way to a 2.3 60' time.

Very eye opening to have to rapidly move from the left course to the right course and back and forth without any time to really reflect on your run. Also eye opening to roll across the scales at 4,032 lbs with me in the car. Almost 600lbs off of the class minimum weight.

Looking forward to the next one.

Why the DNS' on Sunday morning ? Did you have a failure of some sort ?
Sunday it's typically where it's at (minus dry Sat and rain on Sun).
Most cars are heavy (I know Terry's car is close to 4k lb) but feels like yours should be lighter. Mine is typically 3,860 with half a tank and me inside.

I thought about coming to this one for about 2 seconds, I'd rather drive to Lincoln for spring nats (11.5 hrs) than there which is technically like 8 hours but with Atlanta on the way :D

Honestly forgot to set my "race day alarm" for the second day and woke up about the same time course walks closed. There was a line of rain all the way across Atlanta and extending down towards the event site. Looked like it was going to go from 80 and partly cloudy on Saturday to 60 and potentially some sprinkles on Sunday. Made the decision to not make the 2-1/2 hour round trip to run in those conditions. Of course the rain never showed and the sun came out so many went faster on day 2.

Talked to Terry and Dustin and their car is 4150 or something this weekend. My car was 3/4 tank of E85 and i was 212lbs Saturday morning. Car is basically full weight plus splitter, chassis braces, wing, diffuser. Only real weight loss was the swap from stock springs to the MCS coilovers.

Prosolos are different, eh? Pretty intense to run 4 runs back to back like that.

That weight sounds about right, 3850ish for a full weight car with wheels/coilovers. Good news is theres a lot of room for weight loss. 200lbs is pretty attainable, and an additional 100lbs if you spend a bit more money. Beyond that, you start turning it into a less-than-fun street car but another 200-300lbs is probably possible with just pulling everything out and only putting back in the required.

ProSolos are awesome and terrible. Nothing matters till Sunday morning, but also some how you can go a whole weekend and have nothing but a crap run on one side. I love them though, have half a dozen "tree" 1st place trophies sitting next to my desk from the Evo in Packwood.

Last year was my first Pro in the mustang and stock power was waaaay underwhelming. Looking forward to this year with the SC and triple driving with about 7 jackets worth of talent to eek out the potential.

Thats just the rub, with resale values still strong on these cars ive been hesitant to start ripping stuff out. I shudder to think how fast this car would be with 500lbs less weight.

If anyone knows of a good guide for research purposes it would be interesting to look at before I start shopping for sub 40k C6 Z06's

It didnt help that with it being my first I was a hair late to arrive as they started earlier than our regular events, then I one and did the novice meeting, and rhat meant i had only 1 walk per course before we got started compared to the usual 3 I would do on a normal Sunday.

The Pro is where it's at for AutoX. I'd consider driving 10 hours for one before a normal tour event. Not having time to think is the best part!

Now, strip the car, I was at 3840 ish with me in mine and 3/4 tank. And that was with stock seats and no back seat, full interior. Apex wheels help, and if you can get a CRS to heat up then you have a lighter tire without the curb protectors. Realistically, 200 lbs can be done without major sacrifices inside, at least that's where I was at.

I think Im around 3700 after the voodoo swap w/o me in it. The swap increased weight despite a carbon driveshaft. (Voodoo harmonic weights, oil cooler) Need to find another 200 lbs to drop, so it may be time to retire the S197 recaros and do some seats.

I have lighter splitter supports from Speed Italia sitting in the garage but I figured seats would be a sizable weight reduction. These things are just so damned big its hard to drop much with how much sheetmetal exists.

I keep an ongoing list of potential weight loss for all my project cars. Heres my list of things, my price (YMMV), and the cost/lb. I like to watch cost per pound because if something exceeds $150/lb, thats in the range of Ti hardware. So it better offer more than just weight reduction (billet uprights/knuckles for example).

I also roughly track front/mid/rear weight because my Evo being so front heavy and at min weight only needed to prioritize front weight loss. So something like battery relocation with heavy battery made sense on the Evo but 4lb lithium battery on the Mustang is more appropriate.

Yeah dude I'd not AutoX with a suitcase either. But that's just me. 😂
