Ran a couple non-SCCA events over the past weekend.

Event 1 was at Atlanta Motorsports Park using part of their grid and their wet skidpad area. Super tight course that kept me in first gear only, but super challenging with the elevation changes and massive shifts in grip levels depending on where you were at on track as you went from asphalt to a semi-polished concrete that they use for the wet skidpad. Competition at these events is a mixed bag, but haven't faced any serious competition yet. 1st in class and fastest time of the day raw. Sadly I botched the recording of my actual fastest lap and instead recorded about 30 seconds of me sitting at the line waiting to start and 30 seconds after I finished, so below is my 2nd fastest lap which was about 2 seconds slower than my FTD. You can see where I lost a ton of time coming back over the crest due to the flurry of hand over hand steering. The elevation change means that each course usually has two nearly blind corners where you're unable to truly look ahead as it's over the backside of the hill.

Event 2 was with the Peachstate PCA club and the course couldn't have been more different from the day before. This uses the same lot at Atlanta Motor Speedway (the Nascar track) that we use for the SCCA events, but with the Porsche guys they're more willing to explore the speed limits of the location. Ended up having to go to third on one straight and still hit 8,000 rpm in 2nd on two of the other straights. Thinking that a set of 315/30's instead of these 305/30's would get me an extra MPH or two on some of these courses. In the end finished 3rd overall on raw time and and 2nd in class just behind my local CAM-C buddy who also came to the event in his 2014 GT. We both lost out to one very fast driver in a 718 Spyder, but put the other Spyder and a trio of Cayman GT4's in our dust in the process so felt pretty good on the day's results. No idea what the noise is at the end of the video and can't find anything that's fallen off of my car or anything. Didn't hear it in car, but the mic above the license plate picked it up. Assuming it was something that someone else lost and I just happened to run over it at the finish line.

All in all still pretty happy with where the suspension is on the car right now, but I am still considering looking into a DSC controller of some nature and after assessing that I'm considering looking into AJ's conversions for the Magneride dampers. I feel the dual rate gives me some compliance over some of the patchy terrain we race on in areas that can help, but that it is also hurting me in initial turn in and slaloms as I have to move through that area of lower spring rate into the stiffer spring rates to actually settle the car.

You will need a code to register from Raleigh or Velma (that's what he told me) but be on the lookout for registration.
There is a link from SCCA.com>Autocross>CAM Challenge to the Motorsportsreg page. Signed up. Will be spending so much time in Lincoln I may be able to vote in local elections!!!

My guess is that the heat barrier will make a difference. I use that stuff all over my RX7 (entire intake system, floor boards, trans tunnel, etc.) to manage exhaust heat and it works great. Also noticed the wide spread use of that stuff and the gold reflective material on the factory Boss 302s at an IMSA race. Report back!
I’m sad to report heat shielding did approximately nothing. Intake temps still around 130 sitting in grid. Which I guess means the heat is just recirculated air from the radiator towards the intake.

any chance conditions were even worse than usual and by holding at 130 you were actually better off than without the art work?

It was cooler and windier at the “after” event.
But were you pointed into the wind? 😀

Reflection wraps only slow the rate of temp rise. With enough time everything will heat soak, and after that, the wraps may even hinder heat shedding.

Imsa cars don't spend much time at rest...

Was hoping that gold foil would work. I was seeing intake temps of 150+ even with the hood vents while idling before our runs here in Atlanta last weekend.

Looking into the DSC controller after this latest event. Still on the Steeda Dual Rate springs, but feel the damping could be a bit better and they claim noticeable increases with their DSC configuration for those specific springs.

Slipped back to 2nd in yesterday's event again losing to my buddy who beat me at the Porsche event the weekend before by about 9/10ths of a second. Ran the calculations and realized that by buying these tires last year mid-season combined with running two different series this year, I'm already at about 85 runs on these Kumho's and although they still have tread, I'm probably past the point that they will be truly competitive.

Intake air temp is something I haven't looked at. Tire pressures and lateral G's but not air temps. One more thing to think about I guess. Thanks for that!

One of the fast autocrossers in town drenches the intake, radiator and intercooler on his evo between runs. I mean he is spraying everything until the moment we make him get back in his car. Usually a top PAX guy so maybe try that? Saw the same thing at the CAM Challenge in STL.

In club racing, heat soak can be an issue if the whole field is black flagged for track clean up. That puts everyone in the pit lane for 5-10 minutes with a hot racecar. Some of the guys use 3" bilge blowers to blow air on the carb and intake on their cars to combat vapor lock. Maybe a trip to the Bass Pro is warranted.

For reference, my re-71rs fell off hard at like 165 runs while the wear bars still aren’t touching the ground. They are faster than Kumho and clearly durable enough. If you don’t want yokos, I highly recommend the 71rs.

Were you running 295/35R18s ? If I didn't have a set of Yoks purchased earlier this year, would have definitely tried them.

295 35 r18 on 11 inch wide wheels. 71rs is my warm weather tire and yoko is my cold weather tire. Cold basically means jacket weather. But I’m always dual driving.

Only problem with that is that the best I could do would be the 285/35-19 which would be really stretched on a 19x11. Going to ride these out through the end of the year then probably go Falken RT660 315/30-19
