hood vent mods?

What problem are you trying to solve? These stock vents are ok as-is for regular street driving and stock engine.
They are also pretty much useless on track and opening them up won't do much. You'd need to do much much more to manage heat properly.

I checked out your threads and we are very similar but I'm just behind you on progression. The thread on cooling issues at 90 degrees was puzzling. That should never happen with a heat extraction hood in theory. This summer I ran a few HPDE days at 90+ and ran 4 sessions at 22 minutes each and never had a cooling issue.

Did you figure out what the problem was??

My radiator isn't ducted.

So with a hood vent, the exit pathway is now open. Great, but as you know, air will always take the path of least resistance or in other words, around the radiator rather than through it.
I've met quite a few people who also did hood vents and no front ducting and they also saw minimal cooling improvement. Ducting + hood vents = much better cooling.

It's on my list of to-do's but with summer over and southern California track season just starting, this might have to wait till June time frame.

There’s a market for a radiator ducting solution. Watson Racing has something. But the AC condenser apparently interferes with its installation. I don’t know much more than that but I would like to see what could be done.

Remove some of the rear hood weatherstrip at the cowl. It will help with getting that heat.

That doesn't vent heat out while driving. It is a low pressure area. The "cowl induction" was used on lots of Chevy cars in the 70's. It sucks air into the engine bay, but doesn't vent it.

Sitting still in traffic you will see some heat come out, but not while driving.

RTR flat black. I just like the look. The only exterior mod I've done. To me, they have more of a stock look to them than Roush, etc...

the vents are actually pretty big and the grills are angled such that the air moving over should pull air through pretty well.

its just the hole in the hood that is kinda small. i suspect ford did this so that we could open it up if we so desired.

It would be interesting to uncover how much more heat would be extracted relative to a given opening size increase. I know when our club does track days, we all open our hoods between track sessions. I've seen GT500 type center vent hoods used on lesser Mustangs for added heat extraction...I'm just not sure I'd want to disturb the stock look that significantly.

yeah, and you're gonna get rain in when you do that. i think the main benefit of that is it lets the heat out above the engine where it gets most stagnant.

Yes, a wet motor is definitely a concern with that option...

Another idea would be to get headers, either stock or AM, and have them double ceramic coated and heat-wrapped.

Shortly after I bought my s550 I removed a lot of the excess material under the vents and got some cool looking CF hood vents. They worked but it was definitely not enough as 1 of the CF vents blew 20' into the air when going down the main straight at Thunderhill.

From there I upgraded to a TrackSpec hood vent kit and super happy with the results. You can see the heat haze coming out of them when idling and the front end seems waaaaay more planted in certain driving situations. When installed I also had more of the hood bracing removed so that they would work more efficiently.

im a pretty big fan of the stock look, just seemed like opening it up a bit would let more heat out at idle and pull more air through at speed.

Do the stock vents do anything at speed?
They look like they are mostly for heatsoak restarts, and not much else
