I don't know about the M2 Comp specifically, but in general the M2 has been slower than the M4. That was actually a joke on The Grand Tour a few years ago. Jeremy Clarkson was saying he thinks the M2 is the best driving modern M car, and they showed that of the M cars it was also the slowest around the track, and Hammond goes "so if they offered you any M car you'd say I'll take the slowest one thank you".
I don't remember that episode šŸ˜‚ I stopped watching after they did the boat thing, just haven't had time to go back and I heard that they changed the structure of the show

In C&D's Lightning Lap series, the 2015 BMW M4 did 3:00.7 around VIR. The 2016 BMW M2 (different, non-M engine) did it in 3:01.9; the 2019 M2 Competition (same engine as the M4, different body) did it in 2:59.7. I'd call the M4 and M2C within the margin of error.
Did they say anything about the feel (just me being curious), I'm not an M guy so I only know very little about them

"R" vs non "R" GT350. Throw on Cup2 tires and you are almost even for lower cost.

The M2C and M4 have similar steering feel due to similar steering systems and suspension components. (The M2C is really a parts bin car - everything from the M3 and M4 just bolted to a smaller body.) The main difference is that the M2C feels more nimble, more lively due to its shorter wheelbase. The trade-off of this is less stability at speed.

I remember making that statement a long time ago when I didn't have an R. Tires are a large part of the equation, but there is still a long way to go. You could go all the way, but you cant buy an R VIN after the fact, which is what makes it so much more valuable and desirable.

You’re not wrong… But you can’t see the VIN when you’re looking through the apex to the track out. Or maybe it’s the giant smile obscuring my vision :)

Go ahead. Knock yourself out. Take a 350 and convert it down to a gnats ass the spec of an R. You will spend a fortune and you will never get it back unless you tear it apart and return it to stock when you try to sell it. Maybe you missed it, but the value is in the VIN

2019+ has the exact same sway bars and almost identical spring rates. With this said it is still not as fast. Now give me some forged wheels with the R spec cup 2s increasing size up front and back to 305/315 from 295/305 and I am almost positive it will be within half a second if even that. Besides VIR where they claim 2 second difference any other track I have seen 19+ 350 and R are within a second. R’s will be more desirable but to say R’s are vastly different is not true Carbon wheels and tires 99.95% of it. Front splitter maybe a tenth of a second, but with the new swing and gurney that provides all the downforce needed at 120+.

Blasphemy! Don’t even start! :lipssealed:

No matter what owners of lowly ā€˜19 GT350’s do, our cars can never have the seal of approval. No matter how much fun the car is, or how quick it is around a circuit, thatā€˜s not enough here. It has to have the right VIN. Don’t you get it? It’s all about market value. Ask around, you’ll see.

I guess I'm extra screwed not only do I only have a 350, but it is also an 18! I guess I'll just have to keep daily driving I and driving it to and from the track, since it isn't valuable.😁

Yeah. Man they’re the worst.

On one hand I feel terrible for you (not!). On the other, you (we) don’t have so much to worry about and can drive the snot out of it. In my experience, that’s worth more than 2 sec/lap at the track.

Speaking just for myself, that’s a trade off I can live with.

This is coming from a person who actually likes the R and sees it as a relative bargain at MSRP prices. However, the VIN and rarity argument is so weird to bring up to people who supposedly prioritize the driving experience of sports cars.

List of differences that matter to those who prioritize the sports car driving experience:

1. CF wheels - NICE
2. Weight reduction - YES!
3. Sticker tires - MMMHMM
4. VIN - ...okay?

VINs and rarity matter to collectors and...car show posers? Why is this brought up? No doubt it impacts resale but again if we're a forum of people who are interested in performance cars, then what are we doing here talking about VINs?
