The diagonal marks in the cam caps are there to retain oil for startups.......none of what I see is alarming enough to warrant me doing a complete tear down.......Flame Suit installed!! 😄

Modern Digital calipers are more accurate...
But the user can still impact the reading by holding them crooked or applying too much or too little force, for example. Calipers are good to about 0.001", depending on what you are trying to measure. They aren't good enough for checking engine components.

Not the way Ford assigned bearing sets.
Really? Why don't you pull the tolerances and post them then. I can for you if you'd like.

also I did not realize we were comparing completely different tools rather than comparing digital to analog. In that case why don't we use lasers, after all they can be much more accurate

It's all about using the right tool for the job.

And picking the right tool starts with knowing what the tolerance is, not posting arbitrary numbers that don't matter because your old as can't see the lines anymore anyway

This thread might help explain where I’m coming from in reference to Ford OEM bearing selection.

I'm not disagreeing at all. Im just stating a digital caliper is not as accurate as a bore gauge for checking bearing clearances.

Stop it, everybody just knock it off. Nobody uses calipers for that level of precision. Or, if you do, you only try it once. Digital or not. Everybody else is just trolling you.

They make glasses for poor vision, young or old.
There’s nothing arbitrary about the Ford bearing grading system or its precision.

I think I just saw that too. Was it on YouTube tho??
Hello; I saw it on a TV show not long ago. 2 guys garage or truck U maybe. MAVTV.
I don’t think it matters if the motor fires up or not just the rotation of the starter motor turning the cams in the aluminum bearingless bores is enough to cause wear without that oil getting to the top end in milliseconds.
Hello; I get your point but do think there is a difference. Turning over with only the starter at the least is so much slower (fewer RMP's) than under engine power. likely other increased forces compared to starter only.
That's what I always do after I change the oil in my GT. Only let it start after pressure registers.
