I followed Ford's recommendation. I didn't go WOT until after the first oil change which I did at 1000 miles. Never drove above 4000 rpms until oil temp was >180. You gotta remember, the clutch is brand new too.
And any oil consumption?

Don't forgot to mention your break-in method and if your engine consumes oil, guys! ;)

I did lots of WOT and zero throttle during the first 1,000 miles but kept the revs down in the 6k-7k range until after 1,000 miles. I have zero oil consumption with about 20,000 miles on the engine so far.

The main thing I have tried to do since I figured out the characteristics of the engine is to try to avoid lugging it.

^^^^^Same as Hack here. Track pack used zero oil. The R so far is solid at 400 miles. I just warm it up with low rpms until 190 oil temp. I'm usually varying rpms mostly in the 2k to 6k. Just before putting her away yesterday, I brought her gradually up to near 8000 and rode compsession all the way down to near idle in 1st.

I'm at about a quart every 2500 miles. No complaints. Motorcraft 5w-50.

Edit: I recently switched to Amsoil 5w-50 and will record any differences in consumption once I put more miles on it.

Breaking it in "per the manual" gives no real information on how it was broken in, because the manual is extremely vague. "No EXTENDED wide open throttle." What the hell does that mean? Is a full throttle 0-60 run extended? What about running up through 2nd and 3rd gears?

I will say that I broke mine in "per the manual" (did some 0-60 runs and coast down, but always waited for oil temps to be warmed-up before revving, and never spent long periods on throttle. Probably had a few thousand miles before first track day) and I do have some oil consumption. 4 quarts in 7000 miles between my last two changes. Now 1000 miles since my last change and I'm approaching the lower hole on the dipstick. Not quite there yet.

I would say that the oil consumption is probably less related to break in, and more related to factory clearances.
