I have had Steeda hood struts on my 18 GT for 6 1/2 years and they are now starting to not hold the hood up. Can anyone confirm whether replacement struts only can be purchased that fit the Steeda attachment fittings.

I'm sure you can go to parts store and match them or if there's a manufacturer stamp on them.

Yeah I thought they may just be standard universal struts. I guess that if I take one off I can then make sure in the shop that any potential replacement matches. Thanks Ben.

Thanks Dave. I just didn't want to pay the high price of Steeda struts again. After Easter I will have to phone around the strut suppliers and have a chat.

I was going to order the Ford Performance ones today as they are less expensive.

Any reason not to get those?

I have had other manufacture's struts and they got week as well. My Edge and F150 came factory with struts so I figure since Ford didn't put them on the Mustang, it was due to the failure potential because the Mustang hood is heavy. I will stick with the prop rod since it has never failed and needed replacing.

I had Ford Performance struts on my 2016 for over 2 years and never had an issue. I’ve got Redline on my 2022, approaching 3 years later this year and so far so good. I left the prop rod in case the hood struts ever fail but I imagine it’ll be a while before that ever happens.

My Steeda struts were sourced from Stabilus, probably a catalog/stock application Steeda matched for their kit.

After my old Honda Crosstour hood struts randomly failed and gave me a bump on the back of my head I’ve never trusted hood struts. They seemed fine until they weren’t. Prop rod for me!

Actually my favorite was an old w123 Mercedes that had some heavy duty springs that held everything up. Could also just open the hood all the way to 90degrees and it would hold just fine. Amazing cars where everything was built how the engineers wanted it instead of the c suite and accountants.

Gonna get shit for saying this, but that metal prop rod everyone seems to hate has a pretty low failure rate.
I agree, not a difficult job to lift the bonnet and the prop rod is never going to fail very.

If you can wait a few weeks you can have mine if you feel like covering the shipping on them. I pulled them cause I bought a carbon fiber hood for my car. I've been too lazy to pull the lower mounting brackets.
