I installed the Ford Performance ones when I bought my car new. They're still working fine, but back then I wondered how long they would last so looked online for replacements. There was a website at mygassprings.com and the part number was SE130P-55 which I believe was 13" hole to hole for the mount and 55 for 55 lbs. of pressure. I just went there now and that part number isn't there anymore so left them a message. After 5+ years I would imagine they'd be weaker but still seem fine if it's fully open. If you pull the hood down about half-way then it would slam shut.
Thanks, another reference to 55lbs makes me feel a little better about trying what ever I can find in that rating.
Are you working on your car in a hurricane? Thats a heavy hood to be affected by the wind.
you would be surprised how little wind will push a hood around. Hasn't happened on the Mustang, it's usually in the shop. I've had 2 others come down, didn't get hit but it got my attention! Jim

I have the Steeda ones, they recently went out after 4 years. I just bought a new set.

Never had any problems with mine. Maybe they need to be installed correctly ?
I would have to agree with you and say it was an incorrect installation if it damaged the car. My FP set were easy to install and fit and work as intended. Not to mention they look good

I can chime in and say that I bought the Ford Performance struts and had zero issues installing. They do the job.

My reasoning was strictly aesthetic (consistency with build) as I had gone with Ford Performance lowering springs.

Does your hood automatically go up when you open it, I have to push it up? It stays but it does not go up by itself like I have seen other hood struts.

No, it needs a finger touch in that direction before climbing upwards so I won't say it does so by itself.

I went with Redlines but modified to match car color and decals.

What's everybody using? I put a Steeda kit on my 20 when new and the gas cylinders have crapped out. I can't find enough info on them to locate replacement cylinders so I may have to buy another kit. The info printed on the cylinders doesn't get me anywhere on searches, I measure them at 13 inches extended and about 8 inches closed. Anyone have something similar that has the weight rating on them, I could probably find cylinders with that info. Thanks Jim
I have a set of Redlines in chrome or stainless can’t remember which one that I have sitting around the garage. I replaced them with Cervini when I installed the new hood. If anyone is interested $50 plus shipping. They have the mount kit with them.

I got mine from American Muscle, plenty strong enough, but had to modify the base plate so as to not twist and turn a little.

Redline seems to be the go-to brand for many of us. Mine have been installed for 3 years and are still perfect. The design of the fender attachment fasteners on the Ford performance struts has been reported as a problem.
I also have redlines and they lasted about 3 years. One of the struts started leaking and would no longer go up on it's won. I contacted Redline and they sent me a new pair since they where within the 4 year warranty period.

Anyone have a link for these redlines?
I have Roush and have had them for 4ish years now, and one side of the hood, just recently started being an 1/8 of an inch gap on the passenger side at the front of the hood. Almost like something underneath is causing it to no close all the way….. but there is not anything causing it……
