If you can wait a few weeks you can have mine if you feel like covering the shipping on them. I pulled them cause I bought a carbon fiber hood for my car. I've been too lazy to pull the lower mounting brackets.
Thanks for your offer but these days postal charges from US to Aus are over the top. I did leave the prop rod on so I have that. As I mentioned earlier I will probably try to source new struts only and clip them into the steeda fittings.

I put ford performance struts on both of my mustangs. I just don't like working under the hood and working around the prop rod. If the struts start to get weak I will just replace them. I left the prop rod on the one car but removed it from the 2015. I won't get rid of it.

Self fitted Ford Performance Hood Struts to my 2019 Bullitt and have not had a problem and still going strong.
I have pulled up a couple of gas strut suppliers on google. I just need to contact them and get a recommended N pressure rating. They seem to come 50N to 800N and I do not have a clue which would be appropriate for the oem hood.

PKs, if it helps I simply purchased my standard Ford Performance Hood Struts from Mustang Motor Sport, Melbourne at the time and had idea or knowledge about the N pressure rating.

Thanks Steve. I also got my steeda struts from Mustang Motorsport in 2018. I just don't want to go to a new fitting type that other brands have as that would just mean new marks in the paintwork. I have found out that the OEM hood weighs 36 pounds and that I need 13 newtons per pound weight pressure. So I will be looking at new struts with at least 468N pressure. Replacing the struts only will cost about half the price of new complete units.

I’m not sure it’s that simple … :frown:

A) The strut supports part way up the hood, ie the hood is acting like a lever on it, but B) it’s also not taking the full weight of the hood as the hinge is taking some weight too …

I really don’t know what to suggest, other than some kind folk pulling part numbers off any of the struts they have from any of the suppliers ?

Hope you get it sorted - and it would be the kind of info that would be really nice to share for others for future :like:

Yes there is a lot to consider with what force is required and I agree that it is not a simple task. Too little and it wont hold. Too much and the bonnet might deform. Gemini gives a seemingly complete calculation method but also suggests a simple 13N per pound weight.
Ford Performance struts claim they have 90 pound rating? I have not been able to find ratings for the other brands.
I am still looking into it and might have more luck after easter when I can talk to local strut suppliers.

Steeda confirmed that their struts are unable to be regassed. They do sell the struts by themselves without the fittings but the cost quoted on shipping to Australia was horrendous. I have now replaced the Steeda struts with a set of stainless steel ones that I sourced from an Australian company. The Steeda were 335mm from centres of end cups. That size was not available in stainless so I went with 325mm and I can't tell any difference in function on the car. The other critical dimensions are 8/18mm diameters for the piston and body respectively. End cups are 10mm and I opted for 400 N force. With this force the lift of the oem hood is great and holds well. They look great too.
Pricing for the stainless was a lot more than plain steel in black but it was only slightly higher than getting the Steeda ones sent. They can be regassed as well for a very reasonable price.

One disappointing thing I found while doing this install was that the "S" for Steeda cutout on the bracket that mounts on the hood hinge has started to rust. I have included a photo so you know what I am referring to but I took it after cleaning up the rust with WD40. I put a bit of spray down the back but they would have to be taken off to do it properly. Beats me why parts at this price point are not made and finished to a better standard.

The logo is a nice feature, but a known compromise (I suspect that’s why they removed it from the rear IRS braces).

The sharp edges and small cutouts present a problem for the coating, and even putting a lot of time into dressing that area pre coating, they will always be a risk (especially compared to a flat, logo free area).

Those stainless struts look really nice :sunglasses:

When they laser cut the logo, paint won't stick to the edge unless they have been sand blasted or acid dipped to remove the slag. Your new struts look great! I put the ford performance on both of my mustangs one set is a year old and the other was just done in April of this year. Time will tell.

I just bought headers for my 2015 GT and the ad showed Stainless Works logo in the pic and the ad was written as Stainless Works. When they showed up today the logo on the pipes are Stainless Power. I wrote to the seller and they told me it is the same company. I will install them but I won't ever buy from them again. WCA Performance is the company. They will accept a return and pay for shipping. And refund my money, I am still out the time and I want to get this job behind me. I just hate deseptive ads, and people.
