So my engine spun a bearing while sitting at a stoplight. It under warranty and getting replaced. The question I have is I am considering replacing the clutch since, well, it's going to be cheaper because the engine is already out. The car has 28,000 miles and never been abused. The dealership is telling me that I should/need to replace the flywheel also because they (Ford?) doesn't recommend resurfacing it. Is this accurate information?

It’s a night and day difference. Stock clutch is trash. How do u drive your car is the question. Do u baby it or drive it like you stole it.

vengeance is a part of competition Clutch.

You’re saying the oem clutch in a 350 is trash? That’s a crock of …. . The oem clutch in front of the tremec will put up with fi for quite a bit. If the car is stock power there’s no benefit to not use oem. The oem clutch has a really good engagement point and feel. Street or track. An Rxt is a good upgrade but changes the feel.

I think a lot of people use the "newest" thread search and may not realize posts are in the GT350 section. I agree though, new OEM clutch is the way to go. And it's accurate that you should replace the flywheel as well. Most dual mass flywheels cannot be easily resurfaced and most places won't do it.

I’m wondering if you need to replace it at all. The OE GT350 clutch is very robust. I agree that there’s some economy in doing it while it’s all apart, but I’d be tempted to roll with the original.

Question to other GT350 owners, any clutch problems? What’s the observed service life?

I'm hoping this is the case, thanks again for the quick shipping on my converter!

That had crossed my mind. Thought I’d be emphatic in my post regardless. :captain:

My OEM clutch works fine with stock power and track use.

For the flywheel, there is a Ford tech spec for inspecting the flywheel and determining whether it needs to be replaced. I had my clutch replaced with OEM at my expense after the clutch slave went bad and soaked it down (clutch slave and labor under warranty). Flywheel was not replaced.

Thank you for the replies, those are the answers I was looking for, and yes the technician recommended replacing the flywheel. I know I don't really have to replace it at this point but at this point I'm only paying for parts not labor so I'll take the plunge.

I did search the threads before posting but didn't see anything regarding the need to resurface the flywheel which was my main question so I asked.

I also had my clutch replaced when the slave went bad. I was lucky and they covered it under warranty. They also didn't replace the flywheel. Said it looked great. New clutch is working well. I'm at 37k miles total, 6k miles on the new clutch.

They were going to replace the clutch under warranty as well but it showed too much bluing and evidence of heat 😐

Damn, that's shitty! I do feel like I got pretty lucky. I called 4 different dealerships and this one was the only one that said they'd consider replacing it under warranty.
