No need to state the obvious! That happened the second you put 5W-30 in it because of some blog you read on the internet written by a complete loon.

I cannot stress this enough: do not run 5W-30 in your Voodoo.

So first of all, a cross plane crank will improve reliability a LOT.

A lot of people will draw the line there, but that's the big one. There are some things a good engine builder will do:
  • Sleeved block.
  • Long skirt pistons with coated skirts
  • Billet con rods
  • Balanced crank
  • Blueprint everything
I think upgrading the bottom end is still outside of what most folks want to do.

For a car that gets tracked, these are minimally invasive and don't involve tearing down the bottom end. These are all from my notes on things I wanted to do to help with track-use longevity before I decided to get rid of the car:
  • Ford Performance VCT solenoids (stronger brackets.)
  • R phasers in Gen 1 engines.
  • Tune to drop the limiter a tad (7900-8000) and increase midrange power to compensate.
  • Billet OPG (Boundary)
  • Valve springs (PAC).
  • Upgraded valves (Ferrea)
  • Bronze valve guides
  • TItanium valve retainers
  • 10W-60 oil (just to hopefully help keep the spun bearing boogeyman away.)
Things I would not do, ever, at all:

  • Switch from 5W-50 oil to 5W-30 oil in a car that's notorious for spinning bearings.
Hey Amigo. I know the engineer that did all the testing he is Ligit. I am Not Gona change my thoughts. My “Voodoo “ engine LOVES this oil as do all my other cars. Do what you want just giving you all the FACTS! I have tracked my car with this oil. And absolutely no Clicks no consumption No engine noise Period ! And it runs 30deg cooler than it ever did!
so Whatever!

Yeah, I'm a loon for believing a guy who is an actual lubrication engineer and runs an oil analysis company (data driven by actually testing wear metals in used oil) instead of the guy who:
  • Calls himself Rat 540
  • Uses a widely debunked engine oil testing method
  • Can't tell you the details of his setup because it's "proprietary"
  • It's "proprietary" but he just runs a blog.
Look I'm not trying to be mean, but in scrolling that guy's blog, it's clear he has some sort of mental illness.

I say again: do not run 5W-30 oil in your GT350. For the love of god, use Amsoil or Mobil 1 or literally any other unapproved 5W-50 before you decide to take crazy pills and switch to 5W-30 because of some rant you read on the "RAT 540" blog.

If you're not racing the car there's nothing wrong with 5-30

Just got here on this one and somehow I know that I had better make a big batch of popcorn.

The one thing about oil threads is that they never end.

If you're not racing the car, not trying to keep your warranty, or you like spinning bearings, there's nothing wrong with 5-30
I fixed it for you.

What a f---ing world we live in.

"Hey guys - here's an idea, let's run a thinner oil in our high-strung, never-been-done-before high-displacement FPC V8! What could possibly go wrong!"

Here's another important thing to remember about forums: the knowledge test required to post on them is that you have to have an email address.

Same goes for Wordpress blogs, actually.

Funny that the guy using it hasn't spun a bearing

just like the track pack Coyote cars recommend 5w50 but they have the exact same engine ford says to run 5w20 in....

Modern oils are good enough where it doesn't really matter

motorcraft 5w50 is barely a 50 weight anyway...those engines failed so much even with the thicker oil in it...

A handful
I run Amsoil ss 10w30 in my 03 cobra. I run E85 and 21lbs of boost.

My 3 foxbody mustangs get Walmart supertec 10w30 full synthetic.

Any my 67 fastback with a 289 gets Valvoline VR1 10w30.

I only question what I want to do with the 350. I might just stick with motorcraft. One oil change a year and don't log a lot of miles.
