Has anyone ever tried the AGM 12 volt battery in their S550? Good or bad?
I’ve got 3.5 years on my current battery and it’s time to remove it.

The OEM one in my 2018 was already an AGM. Replaced it with an AGM as well.
Nothing special to mention.

(don't forget to reset the Battery Monitoring System when you change the battery)

I wonder about the longevity of them versus a traditional one.

My original battery in my '15 finally shit the bed last week. Just shy of its 9th year.

How does one reset the battery monitoring system?

I replaced my OEM battery from my 2018 in 2020 with a AGM Battery from good old PepBoys. It is still going strong no issues what so ever.

Manufactures are going to AGM batteries because they last longer and have more cold cranking amps than traditional. In the audio industry, AGM batteries are the only option to keep up with the demand from big sound systems. Marine batteries are all AGM as well I believe. They're better. I had a northstar AGM battery in my old shit box truck that lasted 6 years before I sold the battery to a friend that still uses it in his sound system. It fully died twice as well from sitting for months on end. Before I sold the truck I daily drove it the last 2 of the 6 years with zero issues from the battery. Northstars are a different breed of battery though compared to something you'd find at advanced auto.

Got 6.5 years outta my factory battery. It's all in how one maintains it.

Don't touch the car for 8 hours.
Must be locked for more than 8 hours.

All redtops are AGM. I just sort of assumed all modern batteries are AGM these days.

Mine works fine, no issues.

BMS - Car on, not running, pull blinker 5 times, press brake 3 times, battery light should flash. Your owners manual also describes this process.

Just because you have 3.5 years on a battery doesn't mean a thing use it until its dead...years don't mean a thing the voltage is what counts...I got 4.5 out out of mine, when you change it, or discomnect it you will need to reset the BMS

Wow! That's really good. The longest battery I had in any of my cars was an Interstate in my Honda that had a 5 year guarantee and it lasted 6 years. Oh, it wasn't a Costco Interstate, was the regular retail Megatron line.

Was that an option or something, or only came with certain models? I don't think it was standard, but could be wrong. I replaced mine in my 2018 in Jan 2023 with a Motorcraft BAGM-96R. The original was most definitely not an AGM. 🤷‍♂️

My ‘17 needed battery replacement after 4 years. My ‘01 Dodge Ram diesel had AGM’s that I put in as replacements that lasted 11 years. They still cranked fine but I replaced them because it started taking quite a long time for the volt gauge to come back up to normal after a start. So, I agree that years of battery life indicate not much. I would say that it has more to do with other things like type, duty cycle, temperature, etc.
