BBQ tick, as in the noise that a gas grill piezoelectric igniter makes when you push it to light the grill.

Otherwise BBQ is short for Bar-B-Que, a term typically reserved for smoked, slow-cooked, meaty goodness. Not lousy, peasant grilling. Big difference. :D

Many newer engines have piston slap to some degree. The GM LSx engines had horrible piston slap but those engines will go 200k miles without an issue. I really would not worry about piston slap.

For those not familiar with the process, the dealership technicians will only do what Ford authorizes them to do. Especially on a limited production hand-built engine. Dealer technicians have specific guidelines they must follow. Once the dealership has run all the Diagnostics required they forward that information to Ford which then makes the call on whether external components must be replaced or the engine itself must be replaced. I had an exhaust cam phaser fail and that was the extent of what they were authorized to open . Ford will never direct a dealership to internally open an engine of this limited availability so they may further diagnose the failure. You need to make yourself content with not knowing the failure of the engine. They will not release the information, believe me I tried.
Did not know that Harold. Thanks for explaining.

That video appears to try and show the ticking is associated with the climate control system. They guy in the vid says "Turn it off"and then the sound goes away.

The Whipple GT has photos as he was out of warranty and made some or all of the repair himself. Maintain the warranty and let Ford worry about this. Considering the Voodoo is an expensive engine. You might push for some sort of remedy for your difficulty and inconvenience to help improve customer satisfaction. Such as an 8/80k engine warranty upgrade.
I purchased 100k/7 yr when I bought car and maintenance package

Here is un update, went in to dealer today to get some things from my car. Service advisor confirmed that absolutely no oil had leaked out and that they would be performing a formal diagnostic to submit to ford on monday or tuesday. Most likely ford will direct them to not tear down motor, a new motor is currently built and on hold for me. Should take a few days to ship after ford receives formal diagnostic and decides a new motor is needed.

That's good news at least. When I needed mine they were on backorder. Hopefully you are up and running a lot quicker then a lot of the rest of us that have gone through this.

I have a question, will a new motor really affect the potential value of my gt350. From a collectors stand point engine vin will not match, from a maintenance record standpoint will it deter future buyers? Is it time to hire an attorney because resale value will now be substantially diminished? Just wanted to pose a few questions for thought, any responses would be greatly appreciated.

Some private buyers might, but a dealer won't care at all on trade. They're going to low-ball you anyway on it, "numbers matching" or not.

The only thing that really matters is that they don't damage your car or create other problems during the engine swap. If that's all good, IMO the car is just like any other car that hadn't had an engine problem.

I'm hungry.
I was starving, just had a nice big bowl of ramen,

It's called the bbq tick because it's reminiscent of a BBQ ignitor for a gas grill, which I'm sorry, but BBQ or grilling should only be down over coal, or my preference hard lump wood. Otherwise it's just an outdoor stove.

Varekai,

I guess I'm the 2nd one with the BBQ tick. I'll have to google around and see what info there is on it. Mine had it from day 1 (4 miles). Now almost at 11k miles and it is still there from time to time. Had the master tech listen to it with the "stethoscope" and he said the heads were nice and quiet, and not to worry about it.

I also have the piston slap, and it is definitely a different sound.

EDIT: googling around - seems there are many Coyotes and some diesel F250s that have the similar noise... most dealers say it's normal, there was even a ford TSB saying it was normal for the F250....
A lot of people have had it, some people have had their engines replaced for it. My car doesn't burn any oil, but I also don't track it so maybe I don't drive it hard enough to burn. The noise is just a little embarrassing tho. My main thing is wanting to find out if it's okay to use the XL17 friction modifier on the Voodoo that some people had used in their coyotes to fix the tick. Here's a video of my car that I took tonight. I should have had the exhaust in normal mode so the tick is easier to hear.

Sounds like an engine running nothing like the issue others reference as the BBQ tick.

That sounds normal to me. It's hard to tell over a video but it sounds normal. Mines done that from day one. It's even more so with catless x pipe and long tubes. Doesn't bother me any.
I wouldn't add any oil additive. Anything you buy from a bottle other then oil itself makes me cringe.
