I wonder whats gonna happen when these 5.0 motors get very high mileage on them and carbon deposits begin to affect the compression of it such that it will require higher octane fuel. Anyone thought of that?

That you can detect. Computer knows if you have knock. If you aren't hard on the throttle then you will be fine. You may be fine year round as well as I see you are in nor-cal. If it does get 90 plus degrees there this Summer with 70 degree dew points, get yourself some 93 and report back.I use Cheveron 87 octane. GT runs fine, no pings or misses.
My guess is Jimmy hasn't set foot in a Rural King as there probably isn't one of those in NYC. ;)UUhhhhhhhh........no. For real? Is this a rural joke? lol
This thread reminds me of the GNX/Type guys adding Xylene to try and help with detonation.
Jimmy, not sure I can explain it well. Similar to ping but louder. I have only heard it if I bog the engine. What does "knock" sound like?
I've never heard of "Rural King." I just googled "lead gasoline additive" and that was one of the first Google Shopping results to pop up. I used to use a lead additive in my old '69 Dodge Charger. My guess is Jimmy hasn't set foot in a Rural King as there probably isn't one of those in NYC. ;)
Don't forget about Toluene as well. ;)

but e85 has the highest octane ratingE85 isn't an octane, but I'm sure you know that.
...(85% ethanol, 15% gasoline for those who didn't know)
