I'd like to see a dyno comparison for the 5.0L on 87 vs 93 octane. Same car, same dyno, same conditions.

I don't think the V6 cares what octane, it's tuned for 87. At first I thought there was a difference, but the mileage is the same. Is there any advantage like in cleaner burning to using high octane fuel? Now Ecoboost, 2.3L with boost and all that power... I think 93 is the only choice if it were my car.

I run 87 in my GT for DD but if I'm going to the track or doing some fun runs I'll fill up with 93. I see no reason to spend the extra money just to go to work.

91 since that's the best we can get here in CA. 91 is only about $4 more than 87 per fillup, so no big deal.

I think the 5.0 is tuned for 87 so running higher octane won't add horespower? The EB requires 93 to get max HP but can run on lower octane. Best to use top tier gas like BP, Exxon, etc. I run 93 from BP or Exxon only in my Mustang Turbo. Our other vehicle is also a GDI Turbo but is tuned for 87 octane so that is what I use in that vehicle. Use the recommended octane per the manufacturer.

It is not tuned for 93. Read the whole thread.
This thread is filled with misinformation.

The ECU is tuned to run 87-93 octane. Based on octane, the ECU has the capability to advance timing closer to maximum theoretical torque until the knock sensors indicate pre-ignition or detonation. Running higher octane fuel will allow for higher cylinder pressures and temps before the gas ignites.

The real question is if you care about losing ~10hp for running 87 octane.
