Depends on how the 93 octane is mixed. If they put in more ethanol to get the higher octane your gas mileage will suffer.
This - I can get 93 octane from one and only one vendor in my area. I ran it in my '12 Taurus SHO as I had a 93 octane tune. Tried it in the '16 GT and compared it to 91 octane from a DIFFERENT vendor. MPG of the 93 was a bit LOWER than the 91. They are both marked 10% ethanol (impossible to find non-ethanol here in corn country) but the 91 got the better mpg (around 20 combined). On the other had on 87 my the mpg drops significantly to 16 or so. Doing the math - 91 makes the most sense for me.

I'm back and forth from 87 to 93. I drive normal most of the time and on occasion get into it for show, but I don't race. I just drive it quick at times. I've not experienced anything at 87 that would indicate I had an issue getting on it a bit. Sometimes I feel like throwing 93, if I'm at a station that doesn't jack up the price by insane increments.

I remember when 89 was 10 cents higher than 87, and 91 was 10 higher and so on.. doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I'll usually opt for 87, but if I throw in the 93, it's usually a few gallons when I'm empty and I have this hair brained idea that it will result in better performance, but honestly I can't tell the difference.

my 2cents from an daily driver that on occasion flips to sport mode and get peppy.

Yeah that really pisses me off. Used to you could tell how much premium was by how much regular was. Most places here charge 40+ cents more a gallon.

I've tried 87, 89 & 91 (highest we have in California) and the gas mileage is the same no matter what I use.

My car is a DD. If I go to CostCo the difference between 87 and 91 is 10 cents a gallon so I get 91. If it's 20 plus cents a gallon more I just get 87.

Always 93. I didn't buy a performance car to run cheap crap in it, regardless of how many miles I put on it.

Back to 91 (all we got in SoCal) instead of E85 since I got the Whipple on it. I added a bottle of RP octane booster while I am waiting for my Octanium to come in.

93 octane all the time. I've never put anything else in it.

91, or 93. Lately I've been using Sunoco 93 here in PA. It's only like $2.50 or so right now.

Nothing but the best 87 crap fuel for my baby. ;)

The days I feel like getting rowdy with the throttle, I take an extra shit to compensate for the lost 5hp.

I'm not trying to start a fight here, just a question. Can you REALLY tell the difference between 89, 91 & 93 if you didn't know what octane was put into the car? I'm just curious.

I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the tanks that had 87 and the ones where I used 91.

My BMW 335i M Sport owners manual said to use 91 in the car so that's what I did. I never tried 87 or 89 in the car. Ever. The Mustang owners manual does say to use 87. I know we're rehashing some older comments here but I think this question is still unanswered in my mind and probably others. If there is something detrimental to the engine by running lower octane fuel then that would be another reason why I might just always use 91.
