Unpopular opinion/approach:

I've owned the car for 9 years now, I've used hill hold maybe 3 times.
Unless the hill is so steep I'm basically looking at the clouds looking straight forward, i don't use hill hold.

What i do is simply "slip" the clutch with the perfect amount of gas and clutch out so that the engine doesn't stall and the car doesn't roll back any. When light turns green just simply let out of clutch more, and the car goes forward like an automatic.
here's my clutch with 60k miles:

I live in Florida so hill assist is never used. I do sometimes just release the clutch and let the car take off before hitting the gas. Usually that is in tight spaces. When I first got the car, I was testing the grab point with the clutch and thought it was pretty cool this was the first manual I've owned where you could feather the clutch without gas and it wouldn't stall LOL.
Same here in Houston...it's so flat I turned hill assist off after the second time I tried to use it.

I can't say I've developed the habit of using the anti-stall thing. I always manually gas and clutch...just old habit and muscle memory I guess, I never really think about it.

In fact I didn't even know the car had the anti-stall until I read about it on the forums here.

I turned the hill assistance off shortly after getting my gt. Thankfully it stays off and you dont have to go through the process everytime you start it up.

Also I have taken off without the clutch in both my mustang and civic but don't do it all the time. Try that in a manual wrangler though. They are so gutless I feel like I'm over reving at every stop to prevent bogging or stalling.

What is hill hold? I have the Tremac and never used it or knew I had it. Not may hills in central Oklahoma but a few underpasses with a light on the other side. I just use brake to hold while waiting then release a little clutch while moving from brake to gas pedal, adding gas and further releasing clutch. It isn’t rocket science. Is this feature something I need in my life?

I never knew about the feature until I read this post. I did finally realize I don't have to press on the accelerator rather just let off the clutch and the car seems to go.

My other car is a 6spd Turbo 4 with no grunt at idle so I tend to rev the 5.0 to ~1000rpm to get rolling and hill start let’s go immediately.

its a nice feature when you are stopped on a really aggressive hill. Hold the car with the break and let the cluch out till it bites, the issue is if the hill is steep enough you can't allow enough bite to prevent the car from rolling without also stalling it. So it starts to roll backwards and then you have to "catch" it with the gas.

Its a pain in the ass and the hill hold just acks like an extra foot and holds the break until you've engaged properly.

I hate the hill assist, turned it off the day I got my car. Had it off in my WRX as well.

I've never had a manual with hill hold. So when I first brought this Mustang home and anticipated starting on a hill without it, it was a surprise that I didn't have to place any effort into getting moving again. I've gotten used to it since and haven't turned it off yet.

im always clutch no throttle when im taking off normally, but when im on an incline, gas as soon as i let out the clutch. guess i never really thought about it, just second nature. im not the biggest fan of the hill assist only because (like everyone else is saying) it takes a second or two to finally release, and its just kind of annoying. would rather just keep it of LOL

If im on a steep hill, I use the parking brake to hold me a sec and let the handle down as I rub through into first.

I turn off rev match, and hill assist on all my cars if so equipped.

I've run with and without it and am ambivalent. It is an overall nice feature and can be helpful in some situations, but it does let you know it is there with an all but imperceptible pause when taking off.

FWIW, I think just about every Fuel injected vehicle has some sort of idle stabilization or throttle bump for starting from a dead stop.

I will feather the clutch and give just enough throttle to move forward while I come off the pedal, then full on gas to accelerate.

1) I am ok with the hill hold, its a little more aggressive than my S197 hill hold but it works fine. You really appreciate it on a steep hill especially to park it. Sometimes I enjoy the roll back though if I want that I let it time out so I can do a little rocking motion before I take off.

2) The auto throttle feature I actually really like. It has worked great in traffic, also when you need to slowly roll forward or backward. But I do not use for regular driving.

Never clutch only. Always gas it. Takes forever to take off with just the clutch and burns the hell out of it doing that on a hill.

Regarding the throttle bump, that's not true. Both my S197 didn't have it, 03 Mustang did not have it. This was the only car were I noticed giving it throttle which I found pretty neat.
