My whipple gen 3 ate itself and is beyond repair on my 2015 gt. I am weighing options of price vs performance.

I can get whipple gen 6, or hellion tt. I have considered on3 and I'd love to save some money but I was reading their kits aren't plug and play.

My car is a manual, sleeved motor etc... i mostly drive it on the street but I like being able to take it to the track occasionally. I was making 960rwhp on whipple gen 3 but it was hard to drive on the street as it wanted to blow the tires away. I dont have much experience with turbo is the reason I've been debating turbo. I like the idea of turning boost down on the street and turning it up at the track.

Id like to make around 1200rwhp on e85 proper tune, etc. Can anyone share experiences etc? I've been out of modding scene for a bit while I've been dealing with things so not sure what latest is. I know with black Friday around the corner salea should be coming and definitely looking to save where possible.

I run the Smoothboost electronic boost controller on the Gen5 Whipple in my Camaro. Makes 1059 WHP and runs 9.1 @ 153 in the quarter. If I drive it on the street then I just turn the boost down with no pulley changes needed. So I’d highly suggest going that route if you can.

I love my hellion kit on my DD. Cruise around at 6-7lbs and with a quick tap on the boost switch ramp up from there. I haven't run my set up past 800wheel though so I can't give you any good info past that. If it was me I wouldn't go on3 though. By the time you fix and replace crap you really haven't saved much.

I love the efficiency of my set up but I do wonder if a pd would offer an easier time controlling launches. I can keep my set up straight no problem but throttle modulation is hard when boost hits hard right at 4k rpm. Too little and you leave some on the table but too much and you light the tires up. My suspension is a very mild set up though. It's by intention because of it being a daily a d highway Cruiser.

If I did it again I'd still go turbo though.

I had a 2019 pp2 with a whipple. I now have my 22 mach1 with hellion street sleeper. If i had to pick after experience with both, i would go turbo.

VMP Odin stage 3. You have to ask for the stage 3 kit, it's not listed on their website. That should get you to your power goals, be streetable, and is the same rotor pack Ford uses on the GT500.

Yall with turbo setups, do you like the bottom mount twins or top mount twins better from hellion? Ive always looked at the top twins with envy, but always was not enticed to do it with the extensive install i think it involves

still may swap over one day

I have the smooth boost (which I did before the MOTEC).

I never tried to get the full benefits of the smoothboost. I did it mainly because with a 150mm throttle body and a small pulley, the mid rpm and part throttle driveability was poor with the whipple bypass.

I've read (limited) other forums where it's been used quite successfully to modulate output. Though I admit I never really took advantage, I got the MOTEC soon after (which features torque/load by gear).

First, be advised that if you go with whipple, the smoothbost voids their warranty.

Second, if you're planning on making that much sauce, the PD blower is going to be not just impossible to drive, but outright unsafe unless you have SOME way to modulate torque output by gear. Unless you tub the thing with wrinkle wall top fuel tires on a 15" bead lock, it's going to be spin city in virtually every gear.

So basically, whipple is only an option if you A) Make the suspension virtually a funny car so the traction can handle the instantaneous torque B) Use a Smoothboost (which voids the warranty), C) Go with MOTEC which allows output by gear or D) convince one of the tuning unicorns in this forum who's capable of tuning load/torque by gear on the factory PCM.

Given that you're price conscious, it seems like MOTEC isn't really an option.

At your power levels, I'd say go with twins. Maybe not the hellion kit, but after about 800 rwtq, the PD blower setup is just stupid unsafe on the street. One small slip of your foot and it's a highlight video on youtube.

What is the deal work turbo maintenance I keep reading about? I read turbos require more maintenance than a supercharger?
Yes and no. There are more parts with turbos so there is a chance of more maintenance but going with a good kit will minimize that. (Hellion not on3!) Now if your car needs other work you have a lot parts that may be in the way. When I pulled my motor I used alldata for direction. I think I got to step 2 or 3 before I had to detour and remove a bunch of crap to continue but it nothing was difficult if your mechanically incline but it's tedious. I do dread the day my starter goes out. Gotta pull half the exhaust, turbo, oil line etc.... also replacing my maf would have been a 2 minute job when it went out but now that it's in the intercooler it took me about an hour. Still wasn't hard. It happened right after my last shoulder surgery and I did the job both one arm. Hope that helps OP.

Love the bottom mounts. Keeps heat away from the engine and gave me room to put a meth kit in the engine bay.

Th400 transmission will calm down a big power whipple car as well. I have a proven 7sec, bolt together converter for a whipple/th400 combo if anyone out there has an interest.

What is alldata?

I am mechanically inclined have had pretty much every part of my car apart. I mainly just want a fun car. My car is convertible so not really practical for straight drag racing, though I am thinking of buying an auto coupe and swapping everything over put vert back to stock and sell it.

Alldata is a subscription to the shop manuals online. It's usually more detailed than chiltons or Haynes. Ford wanted like 5 times as much to get their manual online but the info is similar.
