I currently have the Hurst shifter in my car. It has a 38% reduction, works well but is quite notchy. I am thinking of going back to the stock (I have a new one) with a blowfish bracket (which I have) or going with an MGW, 21% reduction at a cost of around $900 CDN.
Does anyone have experience with both the blowfish and the MGW to weigh in on whether it’s worth spending the money for the MGW?
TIA

Not sure about the MGW, but I have a Steeda Tri-ax race shifter in my car. It came with stiff springs which give it more of a mechanical feel IMO, whereas without the stiff springs it would likely be close to a stock feel.

I do feel like the stiff springs may slow the shifts down a bit, which could help prevent the high rpm lockout that some people encounter.

i have also had a Barton in my Gen 1 Coyote Mustang. It too was a very good shifter. I don’t think you could go wrong with any of the three (Steeda, Barton or MGW).

MGW seems to be the way to go.. i love mine though its a little notchy. They do offer heavier shift knobs that would cure most of it. I like a notchier feel anyway. Getting into 6th is annoying i will say and you have to be careful not to get into 4th by accident.

The downward push into reverse feels much better than the fiddly plastic POS that the stock knob uses.

I had the blowfish bracket on my 17 with the ford racing shorty shifter. The blowfish only works with the stock shifter, but it mounts the shifter housing to the back of the trans so it moves when the trans moves thus eliminating the flex between the trans and shifter when the trans torques over during spirited driving. The blowfish is not a cure all, but it does help extend the life of the trans somewhat. Also, the blowfish greatly increases NVH in the shifter, so if that is a concern for you, go another route.

Let me know if I can help with the Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter ... we use it in all of our Steeda HPDE & Track cars ... we are very happy with it. You can email me at [email protected]

Another vote for MGW. My only experience is stock vs. MGW, not Blowfish, but I'll add that the MGW is built like a brick shithouse (meaning it's really made well).

I have been using the Blowfish bracket with stock shifter for over 20k miles. It completely cured high rpm shift lockout issues. The only time I've heard any related noise is if lugging the engine at too low of an rpm, which is a bad thing to do to these engines. I do have the Steeda poly trans mount insert installed prior to Blowfish, so maybe this helps with noise.

Too bad they stopped making the Blowfish.

I have the the Barton short throw and really like it. Big improvement over stock in my opinion. I didn't use the heavy springs.

I used to have the Steeda short throw with their mount, it was good but still had lockout. Went MGW and haven’t had problems since, absolutely love it. I also didn’t mind stock, the only reason I started changing things was because of the lockout. Also added a weighted shift knob from Billetworkz. Beautiful piece, they painted it to match the Ruby Red paint

We do a ton of MGW shifters here as well as Barton. Steeda is a great option as well. Please let me know if i can help get you sorted with a shifter setup for your ride !
