But for how long, especially when doing highway pulls to 150?
I think I remember him saying he's got about 40-50 passes on the motor. I would bet most of them have been at that high psi.

I don't think the motor could survive that much longer with the way he's pushing it but I also didn't think it would've made it this far to begin with so what do I know :lipssealed:

No they haven’t, he’s crept up on boost so maybe the 8-10 passes r at over 16psi

I am thinking about Gen1 Coyote built vs. Gen2 Coyote not built. E85 with with VMP Gen2R and a 75mm twin TB so however much boost I can get out of it. I think the blower would run out of steam around 800 whp.

Upgrading from a 3v car, so ultimately it is worth the extra cash to buy the 2015-2017 car vs buying an older 2011-2014 car and building bottom end. Thoughts?

Or you could have a short block built using the new 5.2 predator block - $2300 or Gen 3 coyote $900.

Crank - Boss $300 or upgrade to 5.2- $1100.

Pistons/rods/bearing/main studs ~$1500 -$2500 depending on options .

I scored the Manley Tuff rods / Mahle 2618 pistons(with rings) for a total of about $1500 during recent sales . Minus $100 If you do H rods.
Add $600 for I beams .
$100 for rod bearings . $300 if you add main studs although my engine builder says bolts are fine in most cases .

billet OPG/CS -$400(including pump)

if you pay to have it assembled(includes balancing crank) ~ $700.

if you add it all , less than $4000 will get you a very nice block assembled similar to the Alluminator or better .Most engine builders will charge you $4600-$5500 for the “basic “ “street” build good for 1000whp.

If you have the time you can knock off $1200 by reusing your crank and back if good .

if you want to upgrade to the stronger predator block add $1300 .That would still be at or less than $6K for a predator type block. Add another $1100 for the 5.2 crank but you are getting up there now ... could still be less than $7K buf longer a “budget “ build .

For best combo add the I beams and you are almost “bullet proof” ... we all know there is no such thing .
Curious as to your reason for recommending the I beam rods over an H?

I don’t mean to speak for someone else, but from what I have always understood, the I beam design is inherently a stronger more efficient structural shape. There are a few good articles around that go into depth about the topic way better than I could...

I agree that geometrically I-beams are stronger. I think the H-beam caught on because they are different and look cool.

I have a question for you guys, without starting a whole thread for it.

With stock cams and a 2018 manifold, at what RPM will power stop climbing? Deciding if I should rev past 8k on my new motor or not

7k seemed to be peak power on my 2018 on e85 and 93 just from feel but dynos say the same too 7500 shift point seems best for NA on a 10r80 not sure for a 6r80 or boosted, I think boosted just keeps climbing but I probably would still stay at 7800 or less

Yeah I just saw Brett LaSala's car is making 1600hp on stock cams. So it seems like the intake manifold would be the bottleneck, not the cams.

Most impressive about David’s stock gen 3 was the tear down. The motor showed no wear. Bearings, pistons rods, and cylinder walls looked brand new. He was at least running 1200whp on that motor on multiple passes. Also his motor had the tick.
nice... I haven’t seen that video. I’ll have to check it out.

that’s amazing power on an open deck, stock gen 3 block.

the closed deck predator block is going to be strong AF!!
