Someone from a strict emissions state, please educate me how that sound tube contraption can be associated with anything related to emissions? The round "canister" piece by the shock tower is a sealed rubber diaphragm so the air inlet sound tube port is a sealed port regardless of where it occurs.

Its not that they do anything. Its because it it connected to the airport. And because it is connected to the airport it is considered to be part of the emissions system.

Not that it’s your fault, but that is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. Why anyone would live where they do emissions test is beyond me. Anything to control what you do with your own property.

Agree to a point. I lived in SoCal in the 80's and you could not see the mountains from 40 miles away and could not take a full deep breath without coughing. So the smog laws do have a positive purpose. However for the past 10 years or so they have gone overboard to say the least. There's a old saying my dad use to say;" enough is enough and too much is nasty"

they see the port at the intake that is blocked. obvious alteration. they do not care of your explaining what it was.

there might be many reasons to delete the pipe and some to restore one.

if one installs an aftermarket exhaust pipe's sound has to be eliminated as it was designed to sound in conjunction with an oem system. For this reason it makes sense to install the sound pipe back if one wants to revert back to oem exhaust. Without the pipe it is just too quiet in the cabin.

Since the most difficult part of install\removal proces is the pipe that connects to the cabin it might make sense to just leave it and block it. It makes the whole proces easy and reversible.

that's why I posted this trick initially. not for political discussions..

The main benefit that I noticed regarding removal of the sound tube is better access to the oil dipstick. The sound tube is childish IMO - kinda like putting a playing card and clothespin on your bicycle to hit the spokes and make an engine sound. It's a waste of time and money for Ford to invest in such a worthless device. I spent good money on the B&O sound system and reducing extraneous cabin noise is important.
