It makes checking the oil a pain in the @$$... Especially with the strut tower brace. Its just in the way... Wasn't about sound at all for me, just convenience and freeing up wasted space. Fortunately my Mach 1 doesn't have one :) but I promptly removed from my GT when I had it.
Good point there. I think the factory strut tower brace is more annoying for checking the oil than the sound tube, but you are right the thing is right there taking up space as well.

I did what you want to do. I capped it there as in your photo and at the air intake tube. Works fine, less hassle. I used rubber cane/crutch tips. Saved the removed section to replace if I sell the car.
Do you happen to remember the size of the cap?

I put a rubber "cork" in the hose near the air intake. Left all the plumbing in place. Simple.

What is the purpose of the sound tube?
To add a bit of engine intake sound into the cabin, to enhance the performance driving experience (and camouflage the 2000 rpm tick tick tick) lol.

Is there a reason for all the dislike for the sound tube?
I'm just trying to understand because the sound tube doesn't annoy me at all.

I've seen discussions about this for years and for some reason it is funny to me because the purpose of the sound tube is to make more noise in the cabin.. meanwhile a bunch of those that are removing the sound tube also want to have really loud exhausts.. trying to understand the irony here.
Haven't removed mine yet, I will soon, but my thought process is I want to hear more of the actual exhaust and what's going on with the car rather than intake noise pumped into the cabin. Plus, the things are kind of ugly and (in my opinion) unnecessary. So for $20 I get a slightly cleaner engine bay, a quieter cabin and more pure exhaust sound when I step on it, seems like a win win to me

Was I the only one who plugged the hole from inside the car? Pulled the carpet back a tiny bit slapped a grommet in. Done. less than 10 minutes.

There is also somewhere offered a plug that you insert into the intake pipe and then put the sound tube hose back on.
Is there a reason for all the dislike for the sound tube?
It's simply unnecessary, it's not a microcar with a 3-cylinder sewing machine engine.
On Bullitt and Mach1, Ford dispensed with the nonsense.
It's actually surprising that something so unnecessary is built in, but other things are skimped on.

Work smarter, not harder! 🍻

Nope you are not the only one. I took the plug out of my Mach 1 to run some wires through there and then decided not to. There was no way I was getting my mitts into position to insert the plug from the engine side. I removed the throttle pedal and put it in from the inside. Easy.

Does anyone know what the off the shelf parts are?

Just tried to order the Steeda delete kit, said they would not ship to my location because I was a new customer. Did not tell me until 3 days after the order was placed that it is on backorder and would take up to 2 business weeks to get back in stock, let alone the time to then ship. And also wanted to charge over $11 shipping cost for an item that cost $20 and weighed less that 2lbs.

So, if anyone knows the parts and sizes, I can just go get them from a hardware store at this point

People ask why remove it. Theres a yard irrigation valve that is the right diameter and fits and you can shut off the tube or open it. Maybe its not an entirely sound proof valve but with it open or closed i couldnt tell much of ANY difference.

With the tube gone I havent missed it. So my money is on very little actual sound is affected by that eyesore. I enjoy having less crap in the way when I need to work on stuff.
