To the author: it’s not so easy to unscrew the tube from the firewall. There’s little space to rotate a wrench and that bolt is really long. Took a lot of patience and fingers gymnastics for me.

When I took mine off on the convertible, I couldn't get my big paws back there, so I had no choice but just to yank it out. Once the tube was out, I could get my hand in there barely to plug the hole.

Anyone try it from underneath?

Nah I just yanked and twisted it. Broke right off the stud.. Then I was able to get the plug in no problem... I definitely wasn't planning on putting it back on, went right in the trash can.

Just removed mine yesterday. I have big hands and arms, and with the strut tower brace and the k-brace, there was absolutely no way I was getting that nut off. I ended up removing the strut tower brace and k-brace and was finally able to get socket over the stud, except I couldn't get it to come off. So I just ripped the dumb thing out. Had to borrow some small hands to get the firewall plug in though.

I thought about trying from underneath, but looking at it from the top it looked just as bad from the top of the car.

Not fun but managed (years ago) with all braces in place. Used a swiveling head ratcheting box wrench. IIRC about 5 degrees of rotation so ~10,000 swings of the wrench to get the nut off the seemingly ~5 foot stud. Had no choice but to remove the nut for the weight savings and improved front to rear weight bias.

You can also jack the car, remove the front left wheel, pull back the fender liner, and use the little access panel that's provided for just that purpose.

Thank you! I'll check it out.

Ok. For now I ended up putting on of these in the hose and plugged it back in. It still looks stock, in other words like a rats nest. But will try this for now, and see if I like it and if so, I’ll rip it out later.
