I have searched and found dozens of threads on its removal, but none saying exactly 'why' they're wanting to remove it.

Can someone enlighten me?

I guess I'm in the minority that is generally happy with the exhaust note and sound of this car (minus the transmission noises).

It's a useless tube that adds nothing to the car but route sound from your engine to your cockpit. If you like it, leave it on. For many, they get rid of anything that doesn't add any value and to save weight.

I guess I don't know if I like it. Not sure how it sounds without it. :)
As for weight, it can't be more than a pound right?

Thanks for the explanation.

For me it had nothing to do with weight.

I want the car to be as quiet as possible.

Took out the sound tube but can't really tell any difference.
There might be some difference if compared side by side.

The S550 sound tube really pipes in very little sound compared to the 2011-2014 cars. I think its pretty worthless.

Most remove it for cosmetic purposes. Cleans up the engine bay without it.

Mine will be removed eventually when I decide to modify. It's pointless and has no performance benefit whatsoever. It is there to resonate sound into the cabin.

Because next to the clear coolant grenade, it's the fugliest thing under the hood.

Common.. that clear coolant grenade is sweet!!!
I'm actually thinking of painting the top half of it, so that it's black and red. Probably a mod for next week. I'd replace it outright, but I'm not paying $150 for a coolant reservoir that uses military grade space aluminum. In the end, it's still a coolant reservoir.

1. Its ugly.
2. It clutters up the engine bay.
3. It gets in the way of checking the oil dipstick.
4. It doesn't really make it much louder in the interior anyway.
5. It is 1.25 pounds of useless plastic.
6. Its "gimmicky".
7. Could be a possible source of unmetered air if it ever malfunctions/cracks/breaks.
8. Did I mention its fugly. ;)

Could you confirm that the V6 has a soundtube?

I removed the sound tube from my 2011 GT because the sound bothered me. It seemed like fake sound piped through a tube. But it's a lot more subtle on the 2015 and doesn't bother me. I'll leave it alone.

I don't like the noise it adds to the cabin, but I simply blocked the air passage instead of removing.
