The easiest way to deal with bushings seems to be a push-pull kit, not a press or ball joint tool.
You learn something new everyday! Only been in the motorsport world 25 years and I've never heard of a push-pull kit but it makes sense after looking them up.

I never heard of them until I owned a darn S550 Mustang. A press was always a sufficiently productive experience and is basically the mainstream religion of the automotive community.

I had an opportunity to drive a friends C7 GS this weekend. Won't dive into how a CAMS car felt other than to say, wow. Phenomenal car. Ended up 3rd in CAMS, 3/10ths out of 1st. And 11th raw time, including 3 FM cars ahead of me. Really happy with that, especially with the Spokes folks making their way over to Houston after OK was cancelled, in a car I've never driven before.

BUT, he had the new 660+ on the car. The tires themselves had 145 or so runs on them. I was fully expecting them to be shot, and being more or less trash. Man was I wrong. Granted I was in 100 degree heat, the tires gripped up phenomenally well on my first run, and provided a level of grip a used set of 660s could never match. And they had tread left.

I know Falken says they didn't change the compound, but my experience this weekend, they had to have changed it. The tires were so good I am considering running them as my next set since they provide a 315/30/19.

Just some feedback on the 660+ tires.

My buddy Dan Bullis loves the 660+ on his C6z CAM-S car. Price is definitely nicer than 315 A052s and seem to last a fair bit more runs. Might be a good option for running locals with unless you're a silly try-hard and buy multiple A052 sets a year and have scrubs to burn off.

But I still think the 660+ is a tier lower than peak 200tw for national AutoX.

The A052 overheats if you look at it wrong LOL

But yes I agree. I was more impressed with how much grip a 600 with 140 runs still had in it.

If you dual drive it, yeah that can definitely happen. But it takes more than just a single driver neglecting to spray them for it really. Been running A052s since they came out on the Evo going back and forth from A7s and Yoks. They really act very similar except the hoosier being able to multi-task better.

The Evo is brutal on front tires so on a hot day you'll see us spraying them even after first runs. Its once the wheels and brakes also get fully heat soaked that you're screwed than they grease up.

The Mustang has been (in my short time working on it) way more neutral on tire heat/wear.

I like both A052 and RE71rs, I just wish we could get a 315/335 combo from either.

Really tried to like the P1s, but I wouldnt run them for free at this point. Maybe for Time Attack, not for AX.

I've watched guys spray A052's before the first run, and get back and the tires are overheated. And that same guy would get FTD. In a gutted RWD Porsche (Admittedly with 800 hp LOL, some of you know who I am talking about).

Someone said Falken made the carcass less rigid. I assume it allows it to conform better. A052 is a very lighweight and soft carcass, so I assume now the Falken is more like that. I haven't tried them myself though.

My clutch yesterday starting having a chatter when engaging in the 1st gear during slow take off (like driving around the paddock) - also seems like the gears are harder to engage although I might be little sensitive to that and looking for problems where there aren't any.

Car made 11 runs on concrete in Grissom this weekend without any issues.

I drove manual cars all my life but never had any issues with clutches on them, never wrenched on them and am fairly ignorant about them. Anyone has any ideas on what to look at ? I do realize there isn't much that can be looked at without taking transmission out of the car...

i think I had to replace my clutch at 60k miles. Clutch itself was ok, but the throwout bearing gave up.

yeah not much you can do, exhaust, driveshaft, then trans has to come out

Got some testing done with the most recent changes, 450/550 to 550/700 springs and rear control arm and toe arm spherical bearings. The 35mm front bar was supposed to be here last thursday but after only ~7weeks, what's 2 more days to arrive after we've already left..

Saturday I ran with the rear bar connected but knowing it was probably going to be too tail happy. And I was right, spun about 30ft into the first run :cwl:. In my defense, the 10speed shifts too hard when lateral loads are present, and I gotta get better at shifting only when going straight not when trying to fill out a friction circle on cold tires.

With the rear bar connected the car just doesnt want to put power down early. Its what I expected since the spring rates are picked around having the 35mm front bar and stock rear. I had a terrible time making a run without any significant errors. Scratch times were Mid 51.x's but each run had several spot with several 10ths worth of slides or other time adding problems. On data high 50.x's were doable. 50.6 was needed to match top PAX.

For Saturday afternoon practice and Sunday (the run in the video), I disconnected the rear bar. It did of course make the car a bit lazier reducing total roll rate but the car was night and day better to drive and attack the course. I didnt drive the practice but tossed the keys to James Paulson (Mustang guy in FS and CAM for quite a few years and much more use to Muscle Cars than I am) and he of course managed to get that 50.6xx run on his 2nd try.

Before this weekend we were solidly mid-pack in our PPAX class, about 2-3sec out of the mix. Seems the changes made were a huge step in the right direction. Im hoping we get another good chunk of improvement swapping the front bar and connecting the rear.

Current Setup:
  • MCS 2WNR - 550/750, SSB Designs F/R upper mounts.
  • Apex 18x11.5 VS-5RS wheels w/ 315 A052 (Take offs from nats last year)
  • Drilled FSB - about 30-35% stiffer than stock
  • Spherical Bearings - Ford Performance rear toe arm outer mount, BMR rear lower control arm front mount.
  • 3lb lithium battery (Its slightly too small, I stole it from my Evo but need to get one size bigger)
  • Camber at -3.5 front, -2.5 rear.
Changes for next event:
  • 35mm Steed FSB.
    • I'll start at 1 step below full stiff

We're currently really heavy, was 3950 with me at Packwood ProSolo after already losing ~70lbs with coilovers and wheels. I have a list of changes to drop 230lbs, 150lbs being from the front.

Sounds like a great result.

I am picking up new tires for my setup and want to run an event or two as ive always been on at least 1yr old rubber since receiving the new MCS setup. Want to confirm my lack of grip on corner exit is spring rate and not just tire compound. Speing change may not happen until after the season as I need to do the rear toe arms too.
