What they "can" and "will" do are two completely different questions. They probably "can" make this 500hp with all these upgrades. However, I have a feeling they "will" do the bare minimum to keep the car competitive and tune it for 455. They want to leave some easy hp on the table for future models. I'm sure they have already invested a lot in R&D in this latest 5.0. Ford is a publicly traded business, and their primary objective is to be as profitable as possible to satisfy stockholders and C level employees. If it wasn't for the camaro and challenger making a comeback, we would be still looking at a 300hp V8. Competition breeds greatness.

Power Goals

And you think they waited to see fans reaction to the front fascia before doing the engine development and setting power goals?

It's already proven that having the biggest HP number doesn't dictate sales. The S550 has been outselling the camaro with a lot less power and torque.
No. I think Ford always leaves something on the table for tuners and Ford's Service department to make money off of. Ford also makes money from selling their Ford Racing Performance Parts - which is a nice money making machine for them as well. Its all about the money !

I am not worried about how the refresh looks or how much HP / TQ the 2018 5.0 Coyote engine will have because I know Ford Racing or other Aftermarket performance market will fill a need where there is one. Don't you just love competition / capitalism ?!

 :ford: :headbang:

With the A10, I suspect there will revisions to the standard and optional rear gear options.
It will probably be combined with a standard gearset with no optional ratios offered.
Say goodbye to the 3.55.

Here's a engine walk-around video from one of Ford's top engineers. Its profiled in the truck, but it's relevant to the Mustang.
Haha thanks for the compliment, I wish I was one of Ford's top engineers!!! Just a YouTuber with a mechanical engineering degree. Ford you listening???

With the A10 there's no need for 3.55's or 3.73 gears.

Realistically you'll likely see something in the range of 3.06 at the most.

Might be even lower, the Challenger's use 3.07 gears on the Super Track Pack cars with the 8 speed. I believe they use 2.90 gears on the non STP cars. The Hellcat used a 3.70 gear

I wish I knew!

I'm hoping there's a forced induction 5.0 or 5.2 (CPC) coming......but no factory Mach 1 has used forced induction.

It's weird. There are definite rumours that the, er GT500, might not actually be called GT500, but Ford definitely seem to be pushing their relationship with Shelby (the reveal of the 50th Anniversary Super Snake had plenty of Ford execs extolling the virtues of their relationship). Perhaps this means it'll still be a Shelby, just not a GT500. Perhaps GT750?

I still want both though......a normally aspirated Mach 1 AND a forced induction top dog :)

"Mustang chief engineer Carl Widmann states that the only truly carryover piece from the current 5.0-liter is the crankshaft."

Could this mean they upgraded the oil pump and crank gears so that doesn't have to be the first mod done before adding boost? Hell if they are going to save me $1,000 on that, offer me more mpg, and more base hp plus the 10 speed auto that has been proven to be insane in the ZL1 then sign me up.

Not to mention the advantages 2 methods of injection will have for forced induction. I don't see fuel being an issue at all anymore in making power, now it will just be how much can the engine handle, which is a lot.

Jesus, I know I'm old, but I have a hard time managing 435 HP safely. 455 HP sounds like a barrel of monkeys fun!
So is the announcement of the dual clutch an admission from Ford the existing clutch is a POS?
Thats exactly what I am thinking Scott with 8200 miles and clutch chatter/vibes. This clutch sucks! I am liking everything I am reading about the 18'. Only thing that i don't like is the dual mass flywheel.

People need to understand something, whats killing this car is not the horsepower, but the torque and the weight. If this car still had 435 hp but 435 lbft and the loaded auto version was scaled around 3730 lbs, things would have been different! I am absolutely positive, Ford will address the torque and weight disadvantage for the s650 models.
