The question of the day is this...For those of us with the MGW "gen 1" already, is a "gen 2" worth the cost for potential minimal upgrade quality? I'm guessing not, but open to opinions.

You should most definitely do it. You have no idea what you are missing out on. And I'll take the really old obsolete gen 1 off your hands as a favor for $200.

Haha that's what I was thinking. I've had the mgw on my list since I got the car, but have prioritized other things. While a gen 2 would be sweet...I imagine there will be a good amount of gen 1s for sale here shortly...

I‘ve had the gen 1 in my 2019 GT350 for a couple of years now. It is too stiff and so I’m having the stock shifter installed. The only thing I really liked about the MGW was the confidence in going from 2nd to 3rd.

I'm not sure that I would ever want to re-install the OE shifter (because of it's weird reverse lockout issues) but I will say that the Gen 1 MGW in my 350 is stiffer than I would prefer, even after removing the spring shown in that video. I had an MGW in my Boss 302 and it was great but for some reason the shifting on my 350 is much, much stiffer (MT82 vs 3160 I guess). I do love the precision of it and am not in any hurry to replace it but if the Gen 2 reduces shift effort enough to make a difference then I could see myself making the change.

He's actually not the only one I've seen go back to stock because of how stiff the MGW was, and partly why I haven't switched from stock. If the gen 2 results in decreased effort for shifting that may be enough to make me switch.

Based on George’s comment regarding fewer parts and the milling to accommodate a better bronze bearing-shaft angle, I’d say your concerns have been addressed.

The weekend at VIR was well and truly outstanding despite the cool weather. The Shelby was great despite the relatively low grip. And the shifter?

I really like it. It’s super precise and solid. There’s no slack in it anywhere. Throws are short but not too short.

The resulting combination of transmission and shifter rewards shifts made with intent. You can really bang them out quickly with confidence.

I will say that I had 2 occasions when I failed to engage 5th on a 4-5 upshift. It didn’t grind or pop out. It just didn’t go in. I’m thinking my hand was just a little too light on those shifts.

if you contrast that with the factory shifter, I was occasionally getting 5th instead of 3rd on downshifts under heavy braking from 4th. No bueno.

I expect that with continued use I will develop the muscle memory for a 100% rate. Overall the experience was really intuitive and confidence inspiring.

Thanks to @Epiphany for the info and endorsements. Great upgrade.
