Keep whatever car you have currently…can’t tell if it is 5.0 or Ecoboom….either way, keep it and save your money. As someone else said, go autocrossing.

You have your whole life to find a good car to aspire towards…enjoy the one you have.

5.0 over GT350 at your age any day. Unless you live in California. Then stick to an ecoboom or a prius.

(If you do get a 350, let me know when you wreck it. I need one to start my next engine swap build ;)

1. Likely depends where it’s being driven. Be more specific about “faster”.

2. GT350 owners will say the 350 is more reliable. Supra owners will say Supra is more reliable. Both cars (all cars) have some level of historical reliability items but generally if you take care of the car it should take care of you.

3. This question is stupid I’m not responding.

4. The GT350 is naturally aspirated where as the Supra is turbo. The Supra is going to have a lot more room for growth in terms of HP with a lot less money required. However, with enough money anything can be made fast.

5. Buy the car that YOU like, not the one with the most “street cred”….

6. Your age is irrelevant to the topic (should have left that part out) but prepare yourself for a lot of people here to tell you that at 19 you shouldn’t buy either car.
giving you a follow for one of the best answers Ive seen in a while.

I’ve seen many videos on YouTube of a performance pack GT hanging with or beating a Supra. It’s not a question for me.

I will echo what others said in this thread though. I would keep the 5.0 for now.
I’m relatively close to your age (25) and unless you have a trust fund you won’t believe how the expenses pile up once you get a house, engaged etc. I was making money at 19 too, I get it, it’s hard but if I could do one thing over again I’d save more cash early on. You make good money I assume? Don’t wait until you’re 23 or 24 to start investing like I did. I kept saying “next year I’ll put money away” until I next year’d myself out of probably a hundred thousand dollars worth of gains i missed out on by not investing the money.

I assume you're talking about a new supra. Worth looking at the M340, which is the 4-door supra. With a downpipe and tune they are rockets, seat 4 comfortably and are AWD. Will be a bit more practical than a Supra or GT350.

I've had my first cup of coffee now, so I'll be more helpful towards the OPs question -

OP, I'll address your third question, which is the most important (and most subjective) one that might help answer the others.

You need to figure out what car community you want to be part of.

From my experience (yours may vary), generally, the GT350 crowd doesn't give two shits about the Supra, and the Supra crowd doesn't give two shits about the GT350. From my foxhole, here in Minnesota, there is a distinct difference between the Domestic crowd and the Tuner/JDM/European crowd. I can park my Super Snake at certain car shows and it will be absolutely ignored while the clapped out Honda Civic with a shiny valve cover gets pictures and models posing on the fenders. (*I don't care if I don't get one look towards my car. Car shows are where I go to see different builds, have a good beer at the breweries, and hang out with friends - that's my community*).

You also need to figure out your definition of "respect".

If you get a GT350 and show up to a domestic car show, you will likely be amongst highly tuned GTs, Mach 1s, GT500s, and classics. What kind of respect are you looking for? If you get a Supra, you'll be a modern Supra amongst NSXs, R33/34s, Mk4 Supras, and "Subie gang" cliques. What kind of respect are you looking for?

Whether it's a GT350 or Supra, if it's to say, "I'm 19 and I can afford this"...you'll likely continue chasing that dragon when you get older and someone younger shows up with something "cooler". The car community is a fickle crowd...and it will cause financial pain if "respect" in your "community" is based on image and clout.

Along the lines of community, what's your definition of "faster"? Do you want to do freeway runs or HPDE/Autocross? The former will cause you to go broke if "respect" means being the fastest. The latter will earn you respect simply by showing up and having fun

Well said BombZombie. OP, I buy cars I like/want for me and mod them according to my tastes. Nobody else. Period. That’s not to say I or anyone else doesn’t ask opinions or questions about certain things. I value different thoughts and perspectives and am always open to different ideas. But in the end I have to love it or I’m not doing it.

As for the “community”, there’s some good ones and then there’s the clout chasers that put everything on TikTok, Insta, YouTube, what have you. The latter sucks IMO, you’ll never please them and you’ll go broke trying. They’re also the ones that cause trouble and give those of us that truly appreciate these cars a bad name. Maybe I’m just old but screw that crowd.

Before I bought ny gt350 I looked at a lot of cars. The supra being one of them. Unfortunately it had a few strikes against it. One is that at the time it was only automatic and I love driving manual. Two was that it's a bmw and I just couldn't get over that. I don't have anything against bmw. The m2 comp was another choice but If i am buying a supra and a toyota then that is what i expect. I bought my gt350 and I am happy with it but I do miss having a small car. At some point I will probably buy a 911 s.

I am 41 and I can definitely say that the post above is true wisdom. If you can hold out longer you will be much further ahead later in life. I know it is hard because I have been there and committed the mistakes.

Not too proud to admit this, but we did dumb shit like this in high school, usually with 4 wheelers. I wouldn't trade that silliness for anything in this world.

I wish I knew where those photos were. "Thug life in central Wisconsin" LOL good times!

lol screw all that. Sit on both cars, drive them and see which one makes you excited. The exhaust alone is enough to win me over that shit sound from the Supra. Plus you say you have a super capable 5.0 that’s reliable what else you want at that age? This all sounds like tik tok teenager talk.

I vote Darkhorse. It has a cool name. GT350? Supra? Lame. DARKHORSE is badass. It has a cool look and a sweet looking badge of a horse head. Not just any horse mind you, but a DARKHORSE. Makes the driver look cool. It also comes with a free Affliction T-shirt that further accentuates that coolness (this might be more for the 40-year-old-former-high-school-QB-that-works-at-a-vacuum-cleaner-factory-and-buys-booze-for-teenagers demographic). It has a couple of screens on the dash for Snapface and Instabook and TicTac. How can you go wrong?

Sure does have that vibe, especially the “street cred” statement in the OP.
He should get a Mopar or an Infiniti. They definitely have the TikTok/IG "street cred" vibe he's looking for lol. We don't need another Mustang crashing video.
