Golf Rs are no joke with stage 2 hardware. Inexpensive and quickly becomes an 11 second car with the stock turbo. I had a 17 stage 2 and it was a blast but traded it for my 350

My daily is a stock MK6 Golf R - 4-door stick with no sunroof. Best all round car I have ever owned. I have friends who have modded them and they are crazy fast. I keep mine stock as it is my daily. But I have been known to take it out to the track.

golf R huh? never even thought of those cars as being quick, all I read about today are Civic type R's and Subaru STIs and velosters etc. I'll make sure not to underestimate those golfs now :)

So blue sky for this car for me would have been:
575hp/460-475tq (either high revving v8 or 3.5 Ecoboost from Ford GT/Raptor)
    Six speed manual
    3.90 gears
3450 lbs MAX including all fluids

The auto R is faster right? I'm looking to upgrade my daily driver in two years, right now the ATS-V is #1, looking at a golf R too, cheaper and better on gas. Gotta be the auto/DCT so the girl and mom can drive it.

Dual clutch auto is faster. Two year horizon means that you will probably have to scoop up a used or wait another year or possibly two. The 19 R will be the last of the MK7.

Maybe on the track the Civic will take it. From a dig and in a straight line, a reasonably modded stage 2 Golf R DSG will go toe to toe with cars with 100+ more HP. It’s light and launches like a scalded cat. Trap speeds are nothing special but it covers the quarter in a hurry.
