I wanted a waterproof extension lead for using the CTEK outdoors, I had a choice of blue, yellow, orange or ...

The choice was an easy one :sunglasses:

For those that spotted the CTEK extension lead with my Christmas presents, that was a replacement as I have been dropping it down the side of the engine so the charger can hide under the car with no wires coming out past the cowl or over the headlights / paintwork etc :

But when you drive off and forget about it you have to buy a new one ... :cwl:

Fortunately the charger wasn't connected and it did zero damage to the car - after 20 miles it had survived surprisingly well with only a partially melted section (no shorting) and a scuffed plug on the end of the lead that was trailing under the car, I was very lucky :like:

This is my idiot solution so it doesn't happen again :

I'm still messing around with Sync 3.4 build 20282 - it's loaded onto the car but Ford don't want to recognise it (stopping me updating the maps to F9). I had the same issue with build 20136, I will have to blame it on covid ...

like the clip on handerbar strap for a bikes disk lock :sunglasses:
That's what gave me the idea - even though I didn't initially think I would need it ...

Edited to add the following info :

If anyone is using a CTEK in an outdoor or potentially damp / wet environment then check the o ring seal on the quick connects. They are in slight tension when fitted so they don't last as long as you might expect :

I have seen 'new' CTEK stuff come with seals that already show signs of perishing (I assume on older stock).

Replacement seals are available cheaply on eBay (example item number 293704106329 ...)

Try some EPDM rubber seals and possibly a light smear of silicon grease on the seal.

Topped up the coolant today with some Mountain Dew ... lol

It had done the initial drop from new, took around 350 ml to get it up to max on a cold engine.

Whilst I was at it, I took the opportunity to swap out the factory bolts :

To something with a bit more colour to match the coolant and the paintwork (and straighten the mounts / neaten the plastic) :

Finished off by washing it as the weather was nice :sunglasses:

Then it snowed ... :cwl:

I have my Ctek connector mounted in the grill honeycomb and it is very unobtrusive. The one and only time that I forgot about disconnecting the charger when reversing out of my garage the leads just harmlessly separated. As long as the charger is screwed to the wall in front of the car I feel safe that if I forget again there should be no dramas.

• Performed an Italian tune up
• Finally deleted @wenklaw from the carplay2air dongle (what a great piece of kit) :like:
• Got to prove the door auto lock now works.
• Got to prove the axle temp gauge works.
• Got gas ... lol
• Got to start making some stuff :

Thanks to @JohnVallo for sharing some dimensions, but that didn’t stop me measuring and checking about three times each ... lol

Thank you :like:

Galvanising them would be pointless, they are stainless steel ...

The auto lock (locking doors when you drive off) wasn’t activated on my car. Turning it on gives you an option on the digital dash to turn it on and off as you please :like:

The main dealer must be able to do it, but if they are willing to do so and how much they would charge you is another issue ... lol

It's quite easy to do yourself if you have access to a OBD dongle and a laptop. I got this one for Christmas :

1612255040799.png

The software and licence (ForScan) are free.

If your not an IT kind of guy (like me lol) It can appear a bit daunting at first, but it really is quite a simple process backed up by YouTube demo's etc :like:

I figured the OBD tool was a useful thing to have even if I didn't want to mess around with the Mustangs settings.

For the Mustang I have changed a few of my settings (from memory) :
  • Autolock
  • Upped the number of 'momentary' indicator flashes (to show off the sequentials a bit more :cwl:)
  • Turned on the axle temp gauge (our cars have the sensor and use the data to protect the transmission - but ford choose to turn the user visible gauge off on exports)
  • Ford Performance splash screen animation (not my photo) :

I am hoping I never have to use the OBD tool for problem sorting / fault codes etc ... :fingerscrossed:

I found a little right angle USB adaptor (Amazon) which allowed me to install the CarPlay2Air dongle neatly with a bit of 3M VHB (a GoPro mount lol)

Tucked away under the edge of the centre console storage bin:

Works like a charm :

But I would still plug the phone in with a wire if I was traveling a good distance and using the satnav etc :like:

Finally got around to putting all my old CD's onto this tiny 64GB Lexar drive :

Now I can really show my age driving around with my tunes on and the window down ... :cwl:

nearly first thing I do with a CD is transfer it to mp3 but I've got really lazy updating the USB stick for the car! Hardly listen to music in the car tbh
