So 4 years ago my camera went out. ALSO, my trunk would not open. PITA.
Now it's happened again with the camera but trunk still works.

Three years ago I had a dealer do a fix. It was a splice. Now with the current recall, Ford will actually replace the harness AND install an updated Camera.

I will try for a refund ($262) as I retained the receipt. Good luck to ME!! :like:

RE: post #30, that is not the fix that Ford will do in 2022. See my above post. The original "SPLICE" fix was NFG.

My camera works fine, but I rarely open the trunk. Got a letter from ford today informing me of the recall, even tho I knew about it weeks ago thanks to the ford pass app.

If you know how to solder you can repair this yourself very easily. I had the issue and I peeled back the wiring harness to find one wire completely rubbed through (the backup camera wire) and another on the verge of rubbing through as well (radio antenna). I cut both wires, stripped them and soldered them back together with some heat shrink. I then put the harness loom back over and removed the clip that holds the harness to the top of the trunk allowing more room for the harness to move when opening and closing the trunk. Never had a problem since.

Ford is actually going to replace the whole harness with a more flexible and less abrasive sheathing . The 15-17 camera also had a soldering defect so Ford will also replace the camera.

Once mine is completed, I'll make sure the harness strain relief is not so aggressive.

Just curious, has anyone went in to get this service who has done an update from MFT to Sync 3? any issues for them to cover the recall? or is this already voided due to the modification?
I ended up taking a little proactive approach at the end of last year where I clipped some of the zip ties that cause the stress on the wires and I also replaced the wire wrap with corrugated tubing. Will see how it goes but currently no issues. I do not plan on pursuing unless I start to have issues. I did have a strange issue to just pass on. I did a Cyannet Sync update to 3.4.21194 which made me start having random camera issues and Forscan popping camera code errors. That led me to look at the wiring which looked normal. So I back rev. to 3.4.21098 and have been fine since. May try going to 22020 when the warmer weather hits to see if the problem comes back.

My 17's camera started acting up last spring so I took it in, finding out warranty was over. So I checked the trunk wiring harness and found nothing wrong. Low and behold a camera recall notice comes in the mail today. Now all I and everybody else has to do is wait for replacement parts to arrive, if ever.
Reminds me of my now gone 05 that had a second recall for air bag. Went to dealer, they said they'd order parts and never heard from them again. I sold the car 2 years later and kept getting the same recall notice from Ford, CA for 2 years after selling. And the stealership fails again.

I already repaired mine. I doubt they send me a check.

Are there any cars left that didn't already have it go out? When mine went out I was trying to explain the picture and circumstances as best I could because it was intermittent. The service writer entertained me a bit before she said they already likely knew what it was and had a fix. It was so normal it was in the usual suspects list.
Bought mine with 91k miles around a year ago. When things started heating up in AZ (110 degree days) my camera started glitching and cutting out. Once things became cooler it hasn't been an issue.

Glad I can get this fixed for free now!

I got the letter too, never had a problem with my camera, however, I turn my head and use my eyes or my mirrors when I back up, the camera is just an added bonus. If it were distorted why on earth would someone still continue backing up? Always remember when ever you see something safety related whether it's on a car, sign, or a label, it means somebody has done it, and that's why the label is needed in the first place. Doh! Lol

The "OTHER" problem associated with this is the fact that the electric trunk release gets it's power from the defective cable. Shortly after my camera went on the fritz, the trunk failed to open.

Did you know there is a secret mechanical "Trunk" release and it IS NOT the inside emergency child release. For the coupe, you need to pull down the rear seat back and the release is under the rear package shelf. No need to climb inside the trunk.

The convertible has secondary mechanical trunk release. I believe it's located on the side of the rear seatback

Has anyone had the new cable/camera installed yet. I'm guessing it will be another 4-6 months before Ford gets the parts to the dealers. We're talking 300,000 Plus repair kits.

The recall is just a pull and inspect if I recall. Either way, the repair parts already exist as this has been an ongoing issue for years now.

Got my letter a few weeks ago, said to wait on another letter to get an appointment, unless my camera was not working.
