I had possibly this exact issue like half a year ago and got it fixed. Cost me $660 .
Does anyone know if there is any chance of getting a refund now that they are officially recalling this?

Call the Ford 800# and initiate a case/claim. They should reimburse you.

This is awesome and I’m very happy to see the recall. I’ve definitely had a TON of backup camera issues.

I wonder if my intermittent issues with the left rear turn signal going out is just a simple wiring patch job too.

for '16s it's the price of the harness plus the price of someone standing on their head in the trunk soldering 8 conductors and a shield together.

I did this myself about a year and a half ago. Apart from having to be a contorsionist, it wasn't too bad. I bought a new harness for around $150.00. Soldered and heat shrinked all the joints and left the harness about 4-5 inches longer. I've had no problems and the longer cable doesn't kink nearly as bad as the original..

you don't use your trunk lid enough, it will happen.

Opening and closing the lid eventually fatigues the wires in the harness and they break. Mine went at 120K

I did the same, except I put a connector between the new harness and the original. Next time I can do all of the work on the bench.

Just a heads up. When I had my camera replaced on my 2020 Mustang Bullitt I no longer had the guidelines in the camera. The dealership said with the new cameras they no longer have them. They were wrong, after installing the cameras the dealership is supposed to flash the camera. I brought the car back and they said I was right, they flashed it and the guidelines were back. Be safe all.

I wrote up the fix three years ago. It takes about a half hour and costs all of $20 in supplies and tools.
