I'm unsure how that is germane to this conversation. But I do agree, I left my prop rod in place although I don't believe I've used it since I installed the struts.
Why not? If he had his prop rod he wouldn't need a 2x4.

Perhaps he doesn't want the hood all the way up all the time? Besides, how do we know that he doesn't have a prop rod? Rereading his first post and it is ambiguous on that.

I hardwired the battery tender pigtail to my battery terminal clamps and leave the hood shut. When I disconnect it, I just tuck it back under the hood.

Winter weather has been hanging around and with not driving it much lately, I hooked up the trickle charger to keep the battery from draining. I didn't have anything better to use to prop the hood so I'm currently using a ~10" 2x4.

Anyone have a better suggestion? Knowing how heavy these hoods are, I don't want to damage or bend it or mess up the radiator shroud by not having it propped in the best spot.
I have it propped in the middle on the plate where the hood latch is attached as it looked like the strongest spot to. (see attached pic).

Find an old spring and use that as a prop or the Hulk

I checked his photo and the prop rod IS there.

For a clean looking setup don’t use alligator clips. Hard wire the tender and run the wire either out the side of the hood ( carefully) or run the wire out next to th headlight. Then you could put a cover on the car.

Hard wired mine in, cord can exit near headlight and hood closed.

What’s the most optimal way of tapping in and hard wiring a battery tender to the S550?

The concensious seems to be, positive connected to the terminal box by the battery,(not to the battery post) and the negative connected to the strut tower. This is how I connected mine.

Owners manual states positive gets hooked up to the positive terminal, negative gets hooked up to the stud on the shock tower.

Definitely still have the prop rod. Didn't want the hood all the way open and the rod holding all the weight of the hood for a long period of time, that's where the 2x4 came into play.

I do plan on getting the struts sometime soon though, would be nice to work on the car without the prop in the way.

Good god get rid of that block of wood. This is how you do it. Grab some tools, Should take a couple minutes at the most.

From the link in post #5

FWIW, Thats what I do and ... I drive my car at least twice a month to keep it all moving. It dont snow everyday and I usually wait a few days after a snow storm and drive the car only on the main roads for a 20-30 minute run. Car is 9 years old and not a spec of rust underneath. YMMV

After 10 years of Mustang ownership I probably wouldn't install struts again. They gradually lose their force and so I end up using the prop rod as a safety backup anyway.

Like others do, I wired in the maintainer wire to the fusebox and ground lug at the tower so that I can plug/unplug my maintainer. The cable comes out under the hood at the headlight. But I don't latch the hood closed because I want the warning to show on my dash.

Am I missing why the prop rod can’t be used?

He doesn't want the hood all the way up all the time.
He apparently has a concern (unfounded in my opinion) that leaving the hood up will somehow twist/misalign/damage it. I'm 100% sure it would be fine up, on wood like he has it or simply sitting on the latch.
